SLP: Service Location Protocol? Service Location Protocol (SLP) Service Location Protocol (SLP) provides an extensible framework for the discovery and selection of network services. Through this protocol, computers using Internet services no longer need so many static configurations to serve network applications. This is especially important for portable computers or users who are impatient or unable to meet the needs of network system management.
License protection
SLP (Software Licensing and Protection) service is a software activation service. After each boot, the information in the BIOS will be loaded into the memory. After logging into the system, the system will call SLP service to verify the authority of the operating system, especially the activation status, and begin to identify the authorization status of the system according to the product ID. If it is an OEM version, check the installed OEM certificate.
Windows7 adopts SLP2. 1, and verifies the digital signature of product certificate with SLIC public key loaded into memory from BIOS in advance. If the verification fails, it is considered invalid. As long as we use everest software, we can view SLIC information in our BIOS.
