According to Zhang Changgen's Excellent Historical Building in Shanghai-Changning Chapter II, the villa was built in 1920, covering an area of 54 16 square meters, including a garden area of 4,900 square meters and a building area of about 1570 square meters. The owner of the villa is the Jewish doctor Boluo.
Boluo lived in this villa for 10 years. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he committed suicide during the rule of the enemy and puppet troops. After Boluo died, a family named Xu bought the house. People in China are superstitious. If the owner of the house committed suicide, it must be a haunted house. Maybe the Xu family just wants to sell it.
I came across Yan Yutang and Yan, the owners of Dalong Machinery Factory, who have feelings for this villa. Yan and his son officially bought this mansion on 1940 and became the new owners of the garden villa.
This used to be the former residence of the Yan family. Yan Yutang's ancestral home is Wuyuan at the junction of Anhui, Zhejiang and Jiangxi, but several generations have moved to Yanjia Mansion in western Shanghai.
The building is a pseudo-three-story Nordic independent garden house with brick and wood structure. The exterior wall is dry-bonded with pebbles, and the gable has the characteristics of the exposed wooden frame of English architecture. It has a flat tile steep slope roof, a long balcony in the south and a French window. Windows and doors are double-layered, with wooden shutters on the outer layer and glass windows on the inner layer. There are two century-old camphor trees in the park. Inclined roofs, red tiles, fireplace chimneys and cobblestone walls are simple and elegant.
In the living room of Yan Zhai, the handwriting of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's books "Love" and "Coming from Behind" and the handwritten photos presented by Soong Ching Ling are hung. Mo Bao of Zhang Taiyan and Huang Yanpei, Xu Beihong's portrait and Zhang Yilin's motto "Be dutiful" are hung on the living room wall.
There is a population on the north side of the east box, and the car entering the door on the east side can go straight to the door. The platform is on it, which can avoid rain and snow. Be afraid of spacious hard floors, wooden stairs, sanitation, gas and water facilities. There are two century-old camphor trees in the spacious garden in the south. The trees in the garden are forests. There are rockeries, pavilions and nurseries in the garden. The cool lawn creates good conditions for rest and morning exercise.

Yan Yutang (1880 ~ 1958). My ancestral home is Wuxian, Jiangsu Province, and I was born in Yanjiazhai, west of the lake.
