Reading Notes on "Carrying It Is A Skill"

The book "Perseverance is the Skill" is a book in which real estate tycoon Feng Lun reviewed his 60 years of life experience and 30 years of ups and downs in the business world, and sorted out a set of methodologies about life and business development. I learned three points from this book

In the process of communication and negotiation, we need to express tactfully and communicate in a roundabout way, but we often fail to achieve our goals. For example, if you are tactful, roundabout, and suggestive, the other party may not be able to receive these things, or the other party may not feel the pressure and does not know your final needs, so the effect may not be good.

Once this happens, another approach is needed: the naked tactic. The so-called "naked tactic" is to say what you want to say, whether it sounds good or bad, directly to the point, to the end, and to the end at once. By showing the trump card, mutual understanding and cooperation can be achieved.

In a company or organization, when everyone faces difficulties and cannot move forward, retreat, left, or right, and reaches a deadlock, how do we break the situation? How to find a solution to a problem? The answer is the deadlock rule.

There are actually only three ways to resolve the deadlock.

Article 1. Everyone must abide by the rules set by a third party and cannot replace the third party’s rules with unilateral rules. It’s not that you are the eldest brother and I will listen to you, but we both have to listen to the third party and the laws and regulations.

The second rule is that the playing cards played by both parties to the conflict cannot deviate from this set of rules. For example, if two people have a conflict and they want to negotiate the price, then everyone should negotiate the price carefully. If you kidnap and kill instead of negotiating the price, then you are not acting according to the rules of third-party law. This is not resolving the deadlock, but jumping into a dead end. There is no way to resolve the conflict.

Article 3: Don’t be afraid of conflicts and resolve them transparently. The conflict cannot be kept in an opaque state, where no one knows, and the two of them bargain and fight in private. This matter will become more and more chaotic. Once placed under transparent conditions, letting lawyers resolve conflicts, or arbitration or litigation are all ways to resolve the deadlock.

Good leadership first lies in managing oneself, rather than leading others, especially not blaming others. If a person is always complaining about others, always feels that he should lead others, and others have to listen to what he says, then it is everyone else's fault, and he cannot be a good leader.

When a person is on his way to greatness, he must first manage himself well, manage his own money, manage his surrounding connections, manage social relationships, and manage his daily behavior well. When you manage yourself well, have self-discipline, abide by the law, have a vision, and have goals, then many virtues will follow, and people will definitely follow you. When people follow, the power of the organization becomes greater. When you have the ability to manage yourself, you can be qualified to be a leader and become the best member of the organization. If everyone trusts you, they will dare to place their destiny on you, follow you and support you. Only when everyone trusts you and is willing to accept your leadership can you truly become a qualified leader.

We can also say this from another angle. There are three most important things for a leader.

First, you give everyone a sense of direction. You sit there and tell everyone where the future is and where we are going. Everyone will immediately become enlightened, convinced, and willing to follow you. This is called "pointing the direction" or "pointing the way."

Second, "carrying things out" actually means execution, which can resolve all problems one by one. You must have the strength to lead everyone to solve problems, overcome difficulties, and move forward in a down-to-earth manner. This is called "carrying things on." Don't stir up trouble no matter what happens, and don't be afraid of trouble when something happens. This is what a leader needs to do.

Third, you have to pay the bill. Paying the bill means sacrifice, and sacrifice means responsibility. If the company fails and the company loses money and goes bankrupt, then as a leader or a big brother, you must cover the entire cost and pay the entire bill. Providing guidance, shouldering tasks, and paying the bills are the three things that a leader must do well. Without this determination, you cannot be a good leader. Being the eldest brother still has to pay for everything. Even if the company goes bankrupt and the debts have to be paid off, you still have to pay until the last penny is used up. Without the spirit of sacrifice, the spirit of paying the bills, and the ability to take risks, you cannot be an entrepreneur or a good leader. This is why many entrepreneurs now come back halfway, because it is too scary, they feel that it is too hard, and they have to pay the bill in the end, which is too aggrieved, so they quit.
