Extended data
The logo of UnionPay originated from the initial stage of development and trial operation of UnionPay network system before the establishment of China UnionPay. It was conceived by the person in charge of trial operation with computer and graphic background according to the requirements of pluralistic, harmonious and steady development. Commonly known as "angel color", the arrangement design of red, blue and green ternary color blocks respectively represents the meaning of sincere cooperation, stability and smoothness, and security, and is matched with the white Chinese character "UnionPay". The logo was first registered in 1997 and put into trial use in Shenzhen. After the establishment of China UnionPay, it was handed over to China UnionPay for management.
In the use of UnionPay logo, UnionPay is worried that overseas merchants will refuse to accept UnionPay cards because the new logo is different from the old logo promoted overseas, so domestic debit cards and RMB single-currency credit cards use the new logo uniformly, while international debit cards and dual-currency credit cards still use the old logo. It was not until the beginning of 2009 that the dual-currency credit cards of banks began to gradually replace the new UnionPay logo.
