Linquanyuan is located in Linshan Village, a mountainous area in the northern part of Putian County and northeast of Jiuhua Mountain. It is surrounded by mountains on all sides, facing a stream to the west and Shimian Tong Mountain (also known as Maitreya Xiantu Mountain), with an altitude of 500 meters. It is now part of Xitianwei Town, Putian County. The site is about 200 meters long from east to west, 150 meters wide from north to south, and covers an area of ??nearly 30,000 square meters. In 1986, during the province's cultural relics survey, 5 large-scale granite troughs from the Northern Song Dynasty were discovered, as well as some remaining steles, stone pillar foundations and ceramic pieces from the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Based on the information discovered during the investigation, combined with local literature and folklore, some scholars proposed that this should be the site of Linquanyuan Temple in the Song Dynasty, and possibly the site of the Southern Shaolin Temple.
