I met Dong Lao for the first time.
Mr. Dong Chunqi is a veteran of the stamp industry in China. In the early 1950s, he and Lu Tianjiao became the first generation stamp designers in New China. He once designed a set of old stamps of the Red Cross, which was very popular among stamp collectors. Later, due to the need of work, he was selected to study the stamp production technology, transferred from the post of stamp design, and took on the heavy responsibility of stamp production and printing, making great contributions to the cause of stamp printing in China. Now retired, mainly as a technical consultant of Henan Stamp Printing Factory, still busy with the stamp business in China.
Dong Lao and I first met, shortly after the release of the special stamp "China Auto". 1On July 20th, 996, at a small farewell banquet hosted by Changma, the original factory, the author was lucky enough to meet Dong Lao. At that time, Mr. Dong attended the launch of the "China Auto" special stamps and was about to leave the North Spring City and return to Beijing. During the meeting for more than two hours, the author was fortunate to have been sitting with Dong Lao and had a lot of cordial conversations.
First of all, I asked Dong Lao to sign some special stamps for China Auto designed by Dong Lao himself, which I prepared in advance. Dong Lao signed every stamp carefully. Among them, I brought an old "stamp collecting" magazine from 1950s entrusted by my postal friend Li Chaolong. There is a manuscript written by Dong Lao about his experience in Czechoslovakia, and a sketch drawn by Dong Lao at that time. Please sign your name next to the picture. Of course, our topic begins here.
At that time, Dong Lao was a young stamp designer in China. In order to develop stamp printing in New China, he plans to set up a Beijing stamp printing factory. Dong Lao was appointed by the organization to study stamp carving, printing and production technology in Czechoslovakia, a brotherly socialist country. There, Dong Lao learned a whole set of stamp printing techniques, met famous stamp designers and sculptors, and established a profound friendship like comrades and friends. That interview recorded the experience of being a guest in a sculptor, and it is still very interesting to read now.
After Dong Lao returned to China, he worked in Beijing Stamp Printing Bureau and Beijing Stamp Printing Factory for many years. Later, he was transferred back to the stamp design office as the first director of the stamp design office. Unfortunately, Dong Lao has no chance to design more stamps for our country. If Dong Lao hadn't been sent to learn how to make stamps, I believe there would be many stamps designed by Dong Lao.
Mr Dong Lao is still working for the stamp industry in China. What is particularly worth mentioning is his contribution and efforts to the first set of domestic special stamps for automobiles in New China-China Special Stamp for Automobile. For this reason, Dong Lao took the lead in many ways and lobbied around to introduce the products of China automobile industry and publicize the pride of national automobile industry. Especially for our "Big Red Flag" limousine and "Little Liberation" limousine, we personally designed a red flag limousine official letter cover, a red flag limousine postcard and a red flag limousine commemorative card, as well as a big liberation limousine commemorative cover and two liberation limousine commemorative cards, which are very popular with stamp collectors.
When talking about the present situation and development of stamp and philately, he affirmed the gratifying situation and practices, and at the same time expressed concern and indignation at some unhealthy trends and practices, which deeply shared his feelings, and asked Dong Lao to reflect to relevant parties. Dong Lao learned from us about the organizations and activities of grass-roots philatelic associations, and also introduced us to the situation and development of stamp and philatelic circles in China, which benefited the author and the participants a lot.
Speaking of FAW's stamp collecting, Dong Lao is full of passion. He is very concerned about FAW's stamp collecting work, listened carefully to the report of FAW's stamp collecting work, and gave us good suggestions, which fully reflected the care and support of the older generation of stamp collectors.
Dong Lao is approachable, speaks kindly and has no airs. Talking to Dong Lao is as easy-going as talking to parents. As a junior, the author was deeply moved and determined to do more work for FAW collecting stamps. Our FAW products are first-class, and so is our philatelic work.
A short time passed quickly, and my acquaintance and communication with Dong Lao was only the beginning. Later, we had some contact. Chairman Wang of a car factory's trade union drove me in a red-flag car. I sincerely wish Dong Lao to make new contributions to China's stamp industry and look forward to more guidance from Dong Lao.
