This is my first time using the combination of Painter and digital tablet. In addition, I used PS to make some small modifications at the end, such as the final path and the texture filter of the sweater. It is actually practical. PT also has similar functions, but I am still more accustomed to using PS, haha.
The one on the left is a line drawing, and the brush used is a 2B pencil. There is not much to say about line drawing. Drawing with a digital tablet is no different from ordinary sketching, and since it is a rough draft, you can draw whatever you want, as long as the drawing is in place, pay attention to the composition and proportion.
The one on the right is the color sketch after hiding the line drawing. First use chalk to base the character's skin, then use a darker color to draw the backlight, and then draw the tone of the hair. I won’t go into details here because there is no technical content.
Next, create a new layer, ignore the hair and facial features, and first use the water pen in the blender to even out the skin color on the face. Pay attention to the changes in light and dark created by the facial muscles.
After using the water pen, I immediately realized that women are really good things, because their skin is tender and smooth, with no beards and wrinkles. When drawing, you can just push it with the water pen.
Then draw the nose, color it with chalk or oil-based crayon, and continue to use a water pen to spread the color and apply it evenly. At this time, it feels a little like makeup, although I have not done it. . . . .
Attention should be paid to the bridge of the nose to express its volume and the way it is connected to its adjacent parts.
The tip of the nose is divided into the tip of the nose and the wings of the nose. The tip of the nose is shaped like a sphere, and the two wings of the nose are shaped like hemispheres. Pay attention to the changes and transitions between light and dark, so it needs to be processed like a sphere.
The base of the nose is actually the bottom surface of the tip of the nose. It physically contrasts strongly with the rest of the nose in the light. It is a complex structure formed by the turning surface of the nose tip, the nasal septum and the two nostrils. A turning of more than 90° puts the entire bottom of the nose in darkness and forms an obvious boundary between light and dark. For the two irregular nostrils, don’t draw them too realistically, but pay attention to the bright spots in them.
In addition, in the first draft, the contour line on the left side of the nose was concave inward, but in subsequent steps it was changed to convex outward, and a more acute concavity was added to the root of the nose. To reflect the volume of the bridge of the nose. In fact, the noses of Asians are relatively flat and do not protrude from the cheeks as much as those of Westerners. Therefore, when drawing, the noses of Easterners will be concave here, while those of Westerners will be protruding.
Finally, add highlights to the edge of the bridge of the nose and the tip of the nose to highlight the structural features.
That's it after completion. Of course, it's a cliché again. The facial features should be drawn at the same time. Don't draw the nose all the time, otherwise you will lose the overall grasp of the picture. This is just for convenience.
Open a new layer and draw the mouth.
The shape of the mouth is arc-shaped, so it also needs to be processed into a spherical surface. The mouth is composed of upper and lower lips, mouth line, philtrum and chin-labial groove. The upper and lower lips are two opposite W-shapes.
The philtrum is located above the tubercle of the upper lip and is the groove between the nose and mouth. The edges can generally be highlighted.
The upper lip is relatively long, and there is a protrusion called the upper lip tubercle in the center that divides the upper lip into two. In addition, the lip line on the upper lip is relatively clear, so some parts of the lip line generally need to be highlighted.
The mouth line is the dark line formed after the upper and lower lips are closed, with the two ends being the corners of the mouth. The changes in the mouth line are very complex and are composed of several factors such as the gap between the lips, the projection formed by the upper lip, and the structural transition. These factors will cause changes in light and shade.
The changes of the lower lip are relatively smooth, and attention should be paid to reflect the light.
Mentolabial groove is a relatively professional term, which is often used in medicine, especially in the plastic surgery industry. In fact, it refers to the apex of the angle between the chin and lower lip. This angle is the reason for the shadow under the lower lip. This angle can be clearly seen from the side. On the other hand, if you look at it from the front and take care of the shadow when drawing, the lips can naturally lift up from the chin. Generally speaking, people with protruding chins or "too big" chins have no obvious or almost no chin-labial groove, so they need plastic surgery. I think of the protagonist of the 1987 version of Dream of Red Mansions, the brother who played Jia Baoyu, who was "forced" by the director "Then I had my chin augmented to deepen the chin-labial groove. At that time, Chinese people were still very conservative. Even Coca-Cola was not popular. Plastic surgery was a rare thing that was not accepted by people. However, the brother still had plastic surgery. There was nothing he could do about it. The chin-labial groove was not obvious and the director did not accept it. Let him act, but his dedication to art is definitely worth learning from. So, it's better to paint. Even if those who can sing and act don't need plastic surgery, they may still be under unspoken rules. . . .
Finally, you can merge this layer with the face layer, and then blur and smear the edges of the lips and the skin color of the face to make the connection natural.
The eyes are the key point, why should I stop talking nonsense.
The eye consists of the eyeball, upper eyelid, lower eyelid, orbit and lacrimal caruncle. Because it is simple, it will not be marked.
The visible parts of the eyeball are the whites, iris and pupil.
Create a new layer below the eye socket to draw the whites of the eyes. The upper part has the shadow cast by the upper eyelid, and the lower part has the dark part formed by the structure of the sphere itself, so the whites of the eyes are not completely white, and those that are completely white are ghosts.
The iris, which is the black eyeball, can be painted by opening a layer located on the white of the eye. In theory, it is a dark transparent body, so it cannot be painted black. It is best to add some dark red. Don’t add too much, because these days, even cameras can prevent red-eye. In addition, it will form an impression of the object in front of the character on the surface like a convex lens. This is the theoretical basis for detectives in many novels and movies to find clues from the eyes of hostages or suspects. However, generally speaking, we do not need to draw on the iris. A bloody knife or an exploding car can be replaced by a blurry block of color.
There are small but bright highlights on the black pupils. The caruncle is a small reddish spherical bump at the corner of the eye, so it has highlights (which means it also has shadows) and it also has capillaries extending into the whites of the eyes. I like to use a smudge tool to create this effect.
The upper eyelid is thicker and longer than the lower eyelid, so pay attention to its curvature. Eyelashes are thicker and longer.
The shape of the eyelids and the position of the pupils have a lot to do with expressing a person's mental state (even their IQ level). Even if there is only a small change, the difference in the final painting will be as big as Superman and Supergirl. Therefore, we must carefully observe and accurately capture the expression.
Pay attention to the eyebrow area. The skin covering it is at the junction of the forehead and the eye socket, and is also a curved surface, so it must not be drawn as a flat surface.
It is very difficult to process hair. It has no obvious structure and no fixed details. It is dark in color, but cannot be painted black, so it must be lit on top, and the result will be People feel dirty and messy, and their black hair often turns into gray hair.
However, the head has a structure, and the hair must show the spherical structure of the head. So the hair also has a difference between the front side and the back. From the perspective of light and dark, there is the same boundary line between light and dark parts, and there are even reflections, and there are also highlights due to the texture of the hair. And these highlights are not piece by piece, but one by one.
From my experience, for dark hair, there are 4 steps when painting. First, use a large dark brush to create the base color, and then use a smaller brush and a darker color. Use color to bring out the dark parts of the hair, then use a light color to brighten some details, and then use smaller brushes and brighter colors to further brighten the light and dark parts in appropriate locations. And you must keep in mind that although the hair is in clusters, it should have an overall feel when painting. Only a few edge hairs and bangs can be processed in more detail. Of course, the above steps are not suitable for Super Saiyan hair.
When drawing hair, I opened a few more layers so that hair in different parts and styles can be processed separately. Especially for most hair strands, to blur the layer, I like to use Gaussian Blur. Because too many hair strands with clear details will feel separated from the whole, making the picture look messy and dirty. At this time, we must use vagueness to reduce it. The so-called focus on the overall situation and basically eliminate disharmonious factors for the construction of socialism. . . . At this time, blur should be used for reduction to ensure the overall feeling and smoothness of the picture. In addition, you can use thinner strokes to trace the path again on the blurred hair to depict subtle details. In short, we must remember that even if it is hyper-realism, we must pay attention to the relationship between local details and the overall feeling. At the same time, you can also copy, paste and move the path to save time. I completed these processes in PS.

I still remember the time when my art teacher, Mr. Wei, magnificently drew a huge and perfect circle on the blackboard with a wave of his hand. new. However, I could only sigh, because I couldn't draw such gorgeous curves, so I could only return to the ideas and methods of mouse drawing after playing around for a while, so I started to use paths and stroke paths to outline hair. Silk. It is indeed a lot more relaxing. Looking at those gorgeous lines, one can't help but sigh that the emergence and development of computers and mechanical technology have made those technologies that only a few people have suddenly been mastered by everyone. So in layman's terms, these technologies are worthless. And those handicrafts/craftsmen who are more or less squeezed out by mechanized production can only sigh helplessly. . .
Not to mention the hands, they were not drawn very carefully. Pay attention to the light and shade of the joints.
Next is the sweater. Due to the texture, there is no highlight, so after roughly drawing the color and light and shade, I used a fabric filter to create a texture effect, then added the background and signed it. I won’t say much more about the above non-technical things. Anyway, the emergence of computers has greatly reduced the technical content of many things. Maybe one day we can complete such paintings by telling a few commands to the computer, so I decided to make the above records before the painting skills disappear on the earth.
Finally completed
