Zhu Ziqing would rather starve to death than eat American relief food, starting with War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory. The American government helped some flour and other necessities, but the pro-Japanese policy of the American government and the behavior of the American ambassador to China, Si Tuleideng, made many scholars feel insulted.

In order to show the dignity and integrity of the Japanese people, many scholars directly rejected all American alms, refused to buy cheap flour aided by the United States, and signed their names on the declaration protesting against the American policy of aiding China and refusing to accept American aid for flour. At this time, Zhu Ziqing became a serious stomach disease because of his long-term irregular diet, especially in the case of serious food shortage, which directly aggravated his illness. He signed it even though he knew that his life would be in danger after signing it. Many people think he wants it. Even if he signed it, no one would say anything about him.

Unfortunately, Zhu Ziqing finally died of gastric perforation caused by severe gastric ulcer. Many people know that this is the result of starvation. Even before his death, Zhu Ziqing told his family not to buy rationed flour. He remained a patriotic intellectual's integrity and sentiment until his death. Being seriously ill, he would rather starve to death than accept American relief food, which was his truest portrayal at that time.

Zhu Ziqing was born in a scholarly family and moved to Yangzhou with his parents at the age of six. After graduating from high school, he was admitted to Peking University Preparatory College with excellent results. While studying in Peking University, he also participated in the May 4th patriotic movement. He is a passionate patriotic youth and one of the early poets of the New Literature Movement. He did not stay in Beijing after graduating from the philosophy department of Peking University in advance, but chose to return to his alma mater to teach as the teaching director. Although the salary is not high, it can basically maintain the living expenses of a family. Later, I went to Tsinghua University as a professor of Chinese Department and began to engage in literary research. Follow everyone's footsteps and go to Britain to study linguistics and English literature when the wave of studying abroad to save the country is set off in the whole country. After returning from his studies, he was invited to Tsinghua University as the head of China Literature Department to continue teaching and educating people. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, Zhu Ziqing lived a wandering life. Due to long-term irregular diet, he suffered from serious stomach problems, which led to severe gastric ulcer and unfortunate death of gastric perforation.
