Construction of the memorial hall began on September 2 1973 and was officially completed on August 29 1975. The inspiration for the mausoleum mainly comes from Lenin's mausoleum in Moscow. And add unique elements of Vietnamese architecture, such as sloping roofs. The gray granite material used is ground into gray, black and red. Above the porch was written: President Ho Chi Minh (Vietnamese: ch? t? ch H? Chí Minh Vietnamese).

There are more than 240 kinds of flowers and plants in the garden around the mausoleum, all from different parts of Vietnam.

The mausoleum sits west facing east, shaped like a lotus, simple and solemn, with magnificent architecture. On the red granite wall in the front hall of the mausoleum, there is a golden letter that says "Nothing is more valuable than independence and freedom" and Ho Chi Minh's autograph. On the walls on both sides of the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Hall, two slogans are hung: "Long live Vietnam's socialism and country" and "President Ho Chi Minh will always live in the hearts of the people". The slogan is written in Vietnamese. Ho Chi Minh's body was placed in a mausoleum, in a crystal coffin provided by China in the central hall, and was guarded by an army honor guard. Crystal glass glows in dim light.
