Modern middle school students are the largest reading group. They are at the stage of learning knowledge and gaining insight. What books have they read besides the textbooks they have to study at school? Where did you get the book? What is the utilization rate of the school library? Such problems deserve the attention of middle school librarians. In order to understand the reading situation of contemporary middle school students and their views on library work, our library distributed 500 copies of "Reading Questionnaire for Middle School Students" to students in Fuzhou No.1 Middle School, No.5 Middle School, No.19 Middle School and Pingtung Middle School, and collected 442 valid questionnaires, including 2 1 1 for boys and 23 1 for girls.

First of all, it analyzes the reading status and existing problems of contemporary middle school students.

Middle school students are in the adolescence of their lives, and have the personality and characteristics of teenagers. They are active in thinking and eager for knowledge, which is an important period for them to learn knowledge and skills. They are full of beautiful expectations for the future, and have certain learning ability and independent thinking ability. Therefore, their reading presents the following characteristics:

1, increasing knowledge has become the main purpose of reading, but I also like prose and science fiction to express my feelings and satisfy my dreams.

When 260 students choose "motivation to read extra-curricular books", they think that the main purpose of reading extra-curricular books is to increase knowledge, but only a small part is to satisfy curiosity and interest, which shows that middle school students can consciously supplement and absorb knowledge outside textbooks. When asked what kind of books they like best, the number of people who answered "prose, essay" and "science fiction" reached 200 and 1 16 respectively, accounting for more than 3/4 of the total number of people surveyed; The number of people who answered other options such as "Biography of Celebrities", "Natural Science" and "Culture and Social Science" was 120, which just reflected the characteristics of middle school students who are in adolescence who love confession and have many dreams. Prose, prose and science fiction provide them with a vast space. 2. The source of books read and the characteristics of books purchased.

In obtaining books, most middle school students buy them themselves, and in addition, they rent books outside or borrow books from the library and borrow them from others. The book information they obtained generally came from newspaper introductions and classmates' recommendations, with 146 people and 140 people respectively. Students generally like to go to bookstores to buy books by themselves. There are 332 students who choose this option, which shows that contemporary middle school students are quite confident in buying books and show considerable self-determination. When asked "when would you consider buying a book (multiple options)", 72.4% of people answered "buy it when you like it", 54. 1% answered "buy it when you need it", and 34.8% answered "discount book", "masterpiece" and "author's signature book" respectively. It can be seen that middle school students buy books mainly because of their own preferences and needs; The price and popularity of books are also highly valued by middle school students, and it is difficult to arouse their desire to buy books by signing books. When asked about "buying books", which of the following aspects do you care more about (multiple choices, in order of importance), the answers are readability (80.7%), price (5 1.5%), information content (5 1.4%) and frequency (45./kloc-0) in turn. This reflects the influence of internal and external factors on middle school students' book purchase from another level.

3. Problems and reasons in reading.

When reading after class, some contemporary middle school students pursue "curiosity" and "excitement" from their interests to satisfy their low-level reading desire; Some people don't choose what to read and throw it away, which has little effect; Some are overwhelmed by homework, have no time to read books, don't listen to things outside the window, concentrate on reading textbooks, lack knowledge and block information; Some students have the spare time to broaden their knowledge and develop their intelligence in extracurricular reading, but they lack guidance and tend to develop into a single subject without asking about the basics; Some of them read widely, but they are disorganized and not good at choosing, so they lack a system. All these show that contemporary middle school students lack correct guidance in reading. There are many reasons for these situations. In order to make a profit, some publishing houses in the society unscrupulously translate and publish unhealthy books and periodicals full of sexual descriptions, violence, superstitions, etc., and some movies with low style also appear on the silver screen from time to time, which has brought adverse effects to middle school students. Because middle school students are not mature physically and psychologically, they lack the ability to distinguish right from wrong and resist bad influences. They often can't tell the good from the bad, and are easy to be poisoned and eroded. Schools and teachers have not done enough to guide students to read. In addition, in reading, few students can make good reading notes and write book reviews. In the survey, we found that as many as 358 people did not have the habit of writing reading notes, accounting for 75.3% of the total number, and only 84 students wrote immediately and later, accounting for 24.7% of the total number. 27 1 person has not written a simple book review, accounting for 6 1.4% of the total number, and only 162 people have written a book review, accounting for 39.6%. This shows that most contemporary middle school students have not mastered the correct reading methods, and many people stay in the stage of rough reading and have not carefully read. Because writing reading notes and book reviews is an important reading method, which reflects one's understanding of the books read, and a considerable proportion of the students surveyed have never used these two effective reading methods, which should be concerned.

4. Teachers failed to give full play to their role in guiding reading.

Of the 442 students surveyed, only 83 were recommended by teachers to study, accounting for 18.7% of the total number. It can be seen that teachers have not done enough in guiding students how to read and what kind of books to read. Books can influence students' thoughts and behaviors, and teachers will get twice the result with half the effort if they seize the favorable opportunity to give targeted guidance. Then why doesn't the teacher do it? There are many reasons. First of all, most teachers are afraid and unwilling to recommend things other than textbooks to students because of the pressure of senior high school entrance examination and college entrance examination. But in order to achieve high online rate and high school enrollment rate, students are instilled with a large number of teaching AIDS, which leads to narrow students' interests and even high scores and low energy. There are still a few teachers who don't pay attention to personal business learning and can't effectively guide students' extracurricular learning, which leads to students' extracurricular reading being very casual. Therefore, it is urgent to improve teachers' professional quality and effectively guide students' reading behavior. As educated students, they are also facing the pressure of senior high school entrance examination and college entrance examination. They have to deal with a mountain of homework and exams every day, nervous as a taut string, and have no leisure to write reading notes and book reviews. Therefore, reducing students' burden, implementing quality education, allowing students to choose their favorite books after class, and properly developing their personal interests and hobbies are worthy of vigorous promotion.
