The historical origins of Wuchang Shouyi College

The Wuchang Shouyi College campus was originally the Army’s No. 3 Middle School in the late Qing Dynasty, where the Wuchang New Army cavalry and artillery teams were stationed. Because at that time 700 patriots joined the main force of the rebels in Wuchang, it became one of the birthplaces of the Revolution of 1911.

In 1913, Mr. Zhang Taiyan wrote the "Declaration to Commemorate the First Uprising in Wuchang" and advocated the establishment of a university to commemorate the heroes of the First Uprising in Wuchang and inherit the spirit of the Revolution of 1911. During the Anti-Japanese War, Mr. Soong Ching Ling raised funds and asked Mr. Yu Yuzhi, a revolutionary and calligrapher of 1911, to inscribe the name of "Wuchang Shouyi University".

In 1946, Li Yidong, the patriot of 1911, wrote a long article calling for the establishment of a commemorative Wuchang Shouyi University. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Wuhan branch of the Whampoa Military Academy founded by the two major parties of the Chinese revolution, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, was also located in Wuchang. The current site of Wuchang Shouyi College is one of the school sites.

In the spring of 1927, the Nationalist Government moved the capital to Wuhan, and the Whampoa Military Academy Wuhan Branch was officially renamed the Central Military and Political School, becoming the "Cradle of Chinese Generals" for cultivating the pioneers of the modern national revolution.

In November 2010, at the 1911 Revolution Centenary Forum, Mr. Huang Weimin, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the pioneer of the 1911 Revolution, Huang Xingzhi and Sun Huang Weimin, invited descendants of the 1911 Revolution from all over the country and called for signatures to advocate the establishment of Wuchang Shouyi University.
