Zhaozhou Bridge is located on the Mihe River in Zhao County, Hebei Province. It is also called Dashiqiao and Anji Bridge. It has received many praises at home and abroad for its exquisite design and exquisite decoration. Local legend holds that:

It was Lu Ban, a skilled craftsman, who built this bridge. Whenever the rainy season comes in the Mihe River, rainwater, mountain spring water, and river water collected along the way flow down the river. The river water surges, making it difficult to pass, which brings great trouble to the people living on both sides of the Mihe River.

The craftsman Lu Ban rushed to the Mihe River and used his magical skills to build the Zhaozhou Bridge overnight.

The bridge is stable and solid, and the local people are happy. News of the bridge construction spread quickly overnight, alarming Zhang Guolao and Prince Chai. Zhang Guolao and Prince Chai, one riding a donkey and the other pushing a cart, came to the Zhaozhou Bridge. They asked Luban if the bridge was strong enough. Can you stand them passing? Lu Ban was so proud of the spring breeze that he asked the two of them to go to the bridge for inspection.

However, Zhang Guolao packed the sun and the moon in his robe, and Lord Chai's cart contained the famous Five Mountains. As soon as the two people stepped onto the bridge, the stone bridge began to shake. Seeing that the situation was not good, Lu Ban hurriedly jumped into the river and held up the Zhaozhou Bridge with both hands, allowing the two people to pass smoothly.

This story is sung in the widely circulated Hebei folk song "Little Cowherd": "Master Lu Ban built the stone bridge in Zhaozhou, the jade railing was left by the saint, Zhang Guolao rode a donkey on the bridge, Lord Chai pushed the cart There was a ditch." It is said that the hoof prints of Zhang Guolao's donkey and the ruts of Lord Chai's cart are still left on the Zhaozhou Bridge. Summary:

Of course this is just a folk legend. Even if it was really built by Lu Ban, the bridge could not be built overnight.

The designer of Zhaozhou Bridge was actually Li Chun, an outstanding craftsman in the Sui Dynasty. The stone bridge was completed in 599 AD. Zhaozhou Bridge has experienced many floods, wars and earthquakes, and it still stands firmly on the Mi River, allowing residents on both sides of the river to travel.

The railings and pillars of the bridge are carved with a variety of dragons, floral decorations, bamboo knots and other patterns, which are of high artistic value.

In 1961, Zhaozhou Bridge was listed as a nationally protected cultural relic by the State Council. In 1962, Zhaozhou Bridge was transformed into a stamp pattern issued by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. This shows the ingenuity of the designers and builders of Zhaozhou Bridge. It is no wonder that people call the builder Lu Ban in legends.
