What is e-mail?
E-mail (E-mail for short) is an important information service mode on the Internet. Ordinary mail is delivered to us through the post office and postman, and e-mail provides an extremely fast, simple and economical way for Internet users all over the world to use electronic formats such as Microsoft Word documents and. Txt file). Compared with ordinary letters, e-mail is very fast, shortening the time of information transmission from a few days to more than ten days to a few minutes, and it is very convenient to use, that is, it can be sent after writing, saving the trouble of putting up stamps and running the post office. Compared with telephone, using email is very economical, and the transmission is almost free. Moreover, this service is not just a one-on-one service. Users can send letters to a group of people, or to one person and another. It is precisely because of these advantages that hundreds of millions of users on the Internet have their own e-mail addresses, and e-mail has become the most used Internet application.

In order to send e-mail on the Internet, you must have an e-mail address and password. Your email address is used to receive emails. The host to which the user is connected uses this password to check the account. Of course, you need to know the email address of the recipient. The structure of e-mail address is: the user's account is prefixed with an @ symbol, and then the e-mail address of the host connected to account A is prefixed. The user account can be selected by the user, but it needs to be approved by the LAN administrator or your ISP. The user's account is selected by himself, which is easy to remember and recognized by the LAN administrator or ISP to ensure its uniqueness and effectiveness. Internet mail is available 24 hours a day. The speed and distance of mail transmission have little to do with it. Although the distance has little influence, the content of the letter has a great relationship with the speed of mail transmission, generally not exceeding 50 K. Long messages should be transmitted by compressing documents.

Advantages of e-mail

Compared with ordinary letters, e-mail has the following advantages:

Fast: After sending an email, it only takes a few seconds to send it to the email address of the email recipient through the network.

Convenient: writing, sending and receiving emails are all done automatically by computers, and there is no time and place limit for both parties to receive emails.

Cheap: Sending an email costs only a few cents on average, which is cheaper than ordinary letters.

Reliable: each email address is unique in the world, thus ensuring that the email is accurately sent to the recipient's mailbox according to the address entered by the sender.

Rich in content: E-mail can not only transmit text, but also transmit various types of files, such as sound and video.

This kind of mail application needs to pay a certain fee, which is suitable for groups or units.

The following mainly introduces sending and receiving emails through software.

Writing and sending e-mail using Fox mail

At present, the commonly used software for sending and receiving emails is Outlook and Foxmail, and their usage methods are similar. Foxmail is free software, which can be downloaded from the Internet and then installed.

Microsoft Outlook Express has achieved global online communication on the desktop. Whether exchanging emails with colleagues and friends or joining newsgroups to exchange ideas and information, Outlook Express will be your most effective assistant.

Manage multiple mail and news accounts

If you have multiple mail or news accounts, you can use them in the same window. You can even create multiple users or identities for the same computer, and each user has his own mail folder and address book. The function of creating multiple accounts and identities will make it easy for you to distinguish between work emails and personal emails, and users will not interfere with each other.

Browse e-mail easily and quickly

The mailing list and preview pane allow you to read a message while viewing the mailing list. The folder list includes mail folders, news servers and newsgroups, which can be easily switched to each other. You can also create a new folder to organize and sort messages, and then you can set a message rule so that messages that meet the requirements of the rule will be automatically placed in the specified folder. You can also create your own views to customize how messages are viewed.

Save messages on the server for viewing on multiple computers.

If an ISP uses an IMAP mail server to receive mail, it can read, store and organize the mail in the server folder without downloading the mail to your computer. In this way, you can view the mail from any computer that can connect to the mail server.

Use the address book to store and retrieve e-mail addresses

Simply reply to the email, import from other programs, type directly, add from the received email or search in the popular Internet directory service (white pages), and the name and email address can be automatically saved in the address book. Address Book supports Lightweight Directory Service Access Protocol (LDAP), so it can access Internet directory services.

Add a personal signature or stationery to the mail.

Important information can be inserted into the sent mail as part of a personal signature, and multiple signatures can be created for different purposes. If you need to provide more detailed information, you can also add business cards. To make the message more beautiful, you can also add stationery patterns and backgrounds, or change the color and style of the text.

Send and receive secure mail.

You can use a digital ID to digitally sign and encrypt messages. Digitally signing the message can make the recipient confirm that the message is really sent by you, while encrypting the message can ensure that only the designated recipients can read the message.

Find newsgroups of interest

Do you want to find the newsgroup you are interested in? You can search for newsgroups that contain keywords, or browse all valid newsgroups provided by newsgroup providers. After finding the newsgroup you want to view regularly, you can add it to the list of subscribed newsgroups and read it again.

View newsgroup conversations effectively.

You can view newsgroup messages and all their replies without having to view the entire mailing list. When viewing a message list, you can expand or collapse the conversation to find the messages you are interested in, or you can use the view to display only the messages you want to read.

Download newsgroups for offline reading.

In order to make effective use of online time, you can download emails or the whole newsgroup, so that you can read emails without connecting to an ISP. You can download the message header for offline viewing and then mark the message you want to read; In this way, Outlook Express will download the text of these messages the next time you connect. In addition, you can write an email offline and send it out the next time you connect.

The following describes how to configure Outlook.

Click [Next], and the server for receiving and sending mail will be set in the dialog box that appears. You can set the server used for your email address, or you can set it as another server (note: if the server setting is different from that of your email address, it may affect the speed of checking emails).

If you are not satisfied with the original settings, you can click Back to modify them in the previous dialog box. Otherwise, click Next to set the account and password for logging into Outlook (remember, Outlook is divided into users, and you can't use the other person's Outlook to receive emails in different user interfaces, so be sure to remember the password). Continue to set the next step, and the completion prompt box will appear. Click Finish to finish the setup.

At this point, you will see that the mailbox you just set has been added to the mailbox list. Click the [Close] button to exit the dialog box.

If you want to read email in a separate window, just double-click the email you want to read in the OutlookExpress window.

Usually, you read an email when you know that you have received a new email. If you want to review some precious emails after a certain period of time, you can choose these emails to read in your inbox without deleting them.

Reply to e-mail

Answering an email is the same as writing an email, but the reply is written for the received email, so the steps can be simplified. To this end, first, under the [Inbox] folder of OutlookExpress window, select the message to reply, click the [Reply to Author] button in the toolbar in the dialog box that appears, and then open the [Reply] window, which is almost the same as the [New Mail] window, except that the [Recipient] (that is, the email address of the original sender) and the subject have been automatically generated, and part of the contents of the email body area have also been automatically generated. You can type new text and edit the automatically generated text.

If you want to reply to the sender and all the people listed in the CC edit box, please execute the Reply All command on the Mail menu or click the Reply All button in the toolbar.

Forwarding is like writing a reply. To forward mail, first display the received mail in the item area of the inbox, click and select the mail to forward, and then execute the [Forward] command in the [Mail] menu, or click the [Forward] button in the toolbar. At this point, the [Forward] window opens. The difference between this dialog box and the [Reply] window is that the [Recipient] (that is, the email address of the original sender) is not automatically generated, but part of the contents of the subject and letter are generated, including the body of the original email, the inserted attachment, the sender, the sending time and other information. You need to enter the recipient, you can also enter a new email body (such as the reason for forwarding the email and what kind of answer you want to give after receiving it), and you can edit the automatically generated body.
