The date of English letters is in the upper right corner of the text, and the writing is divided into British or American. Britain is generally a day, month and year, such as March 8, 2020; ; American is month, day and year, such as March 8, 2020. The month must be in English, not Arabic numerals.
The date of the letter can be written or not. If there is no requirement to write the date, candidates are advised not to write it, so as not to lose points for writing mistakes.
Address is the address of the recipient and should be aligned to the left. Punctuation must be added after the address. British people often use commas, while Americans often use colons. According to the degree of relationship with the recipient and the type of letter, choose different addressing methods.
1. official letter: for people you don't know, use dear Mr. or Ms. or someone related to it; For people you know, use the words Dear Mr. Li/Ms (gender+surname), Dear Mr./Ms. President (gender+position) or Dear President Li (position+name).
2. Personal letter: if you know each other, but the relationship is not very close, it is the same as "to someone you know" in (1); If you are an acquaintance or relative, you can call them by their first names, such as dear Mary.
The text is the main body of the letter. There are two basic text formats: indent and flush.
Indentation: the first line of each paragraph is indented backwards by 4 letters, leaving no blank lines between paragraphs; The title is capitalized, the text is indented, and the signature is located at the lower right.
Head-to-tail type: the first line of each paragraph is written at the top, and there are blank lines between paragraphs; Title, text and signature are all capitalized.
In actual writing, I suggest that you use indentation format. The text can be written in three parts: introduction-expansion-ending.
Introduction: Explain the purpose and background of writing a letter directly in one or two sentences. Note: you can't copy the expression of the topic here, especially the original sentence, otherwise you will lose points.
Development paragraph: write according to the requirements of the topic, and be detailed and specific. Note: All points in the stem must be included.
Conclusion: Express your hope or desire in one or two sentences, and be specific. The ending part is usually shorter than the introduction part.
In the indented format, the honorific and signature at the end are at the lower right. The honorific words at the end are written on the line above the signature. The first letter of the first word should be capitalized and a comma should be added after the honorific words.
I don't know the end of the recipient's name. Common honorifics are: yours truly, yours truly, yours faithfully, yours faithfully, yours respectfully, etc.
Knowing the end of the recipient's name is often used as a honorific: yours sincerely, yours sincerely, yours lovely, yours lovely, yours etc.
The writer's signature is usually one or two lines below the honorific words at the end and at the lower right of the indented format. The examination questions in Part A of English Writing for Postgraduate Entrance Examination clearly require that the signature be Ling Ming or Zhang Wei, and this part should be strictly in accordance with the requirements of the stem.
