Beihang has dealt with Chen Xiaowu. Why are some schools still deleting posts?
Yesterday, the official blog of Beihang University issued a post late at night, and Professor Chen Xiaowu sexually harassed female students.

Cancel the post of executive vice president of Chen Xiaowu Graduate School, cancel the qualification of graduate tutor, cancel the post of teacher and cancel the qualification of teacher.

Beihang's action won the praise of many alumni, and more people thanked Luo Xixi, a female doctor who insisted on reporting under her real name.

Looking back on this incident, it took nearly three months from June 20 17, when Luo Xixi reported the case to the Commission for Discipline Inspection of Beihang University, to the final official notification of the handling results.

In fact, "sexual harassment" is not uncommon in ivory towers. On July 20 17, Guangzhou Gender Education Center released the Survey on Sexual Harassment of Students and Graduates of China University. According to the report, nearly 70% of the 653 1 respondents have suffered from different forms of sexual harassment. At the same time, the reporting team obtained the data of sexual harassment complaints from 16 University 2 1 1 through government information disclosure, with only three cases.

Wei Tingting, the author of the report, believes that there are three main reasons for the frequent sexual harassment incidents and the small number of complaints and reports. First, some parties feel that they are not serious enough to report the case. Second, after severe sexual harassment, the parties will be ashamed of sexual stigma. Don't want to talk. Third, the parties do not trust the handling mechanism and feel that the report is invalid.

For the sexual harassment incident in the ivory tower, students will shrink back for fear of the uncertainty of the effect after reporting it. At the same time, the society with a strong sense of male chauvinism always looks at the victims of sexual harassment with colored glasses, and various potential public pressure may also consume the courage accumulated by students. In this "Chen Xiaowu" incident, a girl who actively participated in this matter and helped to contact many victims also quit the group because of her family's worries and opposition.

It was this girl's withdrawal that made Luo Xixi and other women involved feel even more unpredictable, so they decided to appeal to the public after voting and put some pressure on the school through social networks.

After online fermentation, Beihang official blog responded on the same day.

However, not every sexual harassment incident can enter the public eye. In more incidents, no brave girl with overseas status like Luo Xixi dares to report her real name, no victim carries a recording pen to collect evidence to protect herself, and no keywords such as "institution of higher learning" and "female doctor" can be spread by public opinion.

So will "Beihang Chen Xiaowu" become the China version of #MeToo? Fuse?

On October 4th, 65438/KLOC-0, Huang Xueqin, a media person who has been following up "Chen Xiaowu of Beihang University", sent a joint letter signed by "Beihang University Student" on his personal official WeChat account "ATSH". The first signature below is Cece from the Luo incident. The letter put forward suggestions on establishing a campus sexual harassment prevention mechanism, and attached six specific suggestions:

1, the school issued a code of conduct for teachers to prevent sexual harassment, clearly pointing out that teachers are not allowed to have sexual relations, intimate relations or romantic relations with students who have direct power relations, otherwise they will be punished or transferred from teaching posts as appropriate;

2. Organize anti-sexual harassment lectures and courses regularly every semester, and train teachers and students in prevention and response.

3. Conduct online campus sexual harassment training and testing regularly every semester, so that students can give anonymous feedback on sexual harassment, depression and anxiety online.

4. Establish an institution of equal rights and interests for faculty and students composed of school leaders, industry experts and legal persons, and establish a mechanism of sexual harassment reporting, complaints, investigation, accountability and punishment. Specialized institutions will be responsible for handling sexual harassment reports and complaints from teachers and students, strengthen supervision, ensure smooth channels for reporting and complaints, and provide effective help to victims of sexual harassment;

5. Set up a psychological counseling office and launch corresponding counseling projects;

6. Clarify the person in charge of the sexual harassment complaint department.

This open letter has received responses from all over the country. More and more girls from Xi International Studies University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Sun Yat-sen University, University of South China, Beijing Normal University, Shandong University, Hubei University, Shantou University, Chuzhou University, Northwest A&F University, Xi 'an Peihua College, Zhejiang University, Tianjin Business School, etc. have come forward to call for the establishment of a sound sexual harassment prevention mechanism.

For these voices, some schools responded positively, some schools said they could "consider" but did not make a clear commitment, and some schools were forced to delete posts. ...

It may not be so easy to change the attitude of the whole society towards sexual harassment through individual cases. These brave young people are fighting against the "hidden rules" of society with their own practical actions, which should be supported by everyone. There should not be only one Chen Xiaowu, nor should there be only one Luo Xixi.

As Lv Pin, a feminist, said, when a society has established a general rule that sexual harassment cannot escape punishment to a certain extent, then the choices made by various power subjects based on their interests may be different.

Punishing Chen Xiaowu severely is a bright light that brings courage to the victims in the shadow.
