Some people say that reading is a lifelong practice.
This person is Luan Hongmei, the reader we are going to introduce today. In her reading practice, she realized that "reading is just for understanding" and "choose good books and read good books"...
If we don't talk about such a broad gain and enlightenment, we just use it simply and crudely. How many points can you get based on the calculation of "one point for reading a book"?
As you calculate your scores, let’s take a look at how this reader treats reading as a practice.
1
Reading, just to "understand"
Jingdu Jun: When did you start to develop the habit of reading? What was the first reason you fell in love with reading?
Luan Hongmei: I have been fond of reading since I was a child. It’s not for anything else but because I find it interesting. Later, I developed a utilitarian mentality, which is not only interesting, but also useful, especially in life and affairs.
Jingdujun: Can you give some specific examples to illustrate the role of reading for you? Or what greater impact has reading had on you?
Luan Hongmei: My mother is illiterate, but she told me that the purpose of reading has no other purpose than to "understand", which I deeply agree with. I once had an extremely difficult experience, and it was Master Miaohua's "The Liberation of Life" that led me out of that extremely bad situation, and I fell in love with Buddhism ever since, which changed the way I think about problems and has benefited me throughout my life.
Notes from the Intensive Reader: It is the luck of every person who loves reading to be able to gain comfort and belief in a book, and to improve himself. I wonder if you have any books that mean a lot to you?
Intensive Reader: In addition to Master Miaohua, do you have any other favorite writers?
Luan Hongmei: I don’t pick writers, only works, but I do prefer the older generation of scholarly writers, such as Zhu Guangqian, Lao She, Sun Li, Liang Shiqiu, Lu Xun, etc. Reading their works, I feel that although they are sometimes a little sad, they are generally stable, without losing hope and passion, and they are truly knowledgeable, not arrogant, and not pretentious.

Eating a basket of rotten apricots is not as good as one fairy peach
Jindu Jun: Will joining the Jingdu Reading Club have any impact on you?
Luan Hongmei: Speaking of influence, it should be said that it is very large. Before joining the reading club, I was reading in a loose manner, even in my interest, with many beginnings and endings. But now I read seriously and completely, and the biggest gain is that I can insist on writing my thoughts after reading. Although it is fragmented and messy, it is always If you write, it will definitely work.
Notes from Intensive Reading: In several previous interviews, readers mostly mentioned the role of reading check-ins in developing the habit of writing their thoughts after reading. For every member who joins the Jingdu Reading Club, Jingdu Jun will be responsible to the end and regularly remind readers who have not checked in to submit their reading notes in a timely manner. Under such external constraints, most readers can keep their promises. Check in on time and work hard to develop good reading habits. Intensive Reading: There are some readers in the Intensive Reading Club who were kicked out of the group because they could not achieve the goal of reading at least one book per month. Have you encountered any obstacles in developing a reading habit? How did you overcome them?
Luan Hongmei: When it comes to being kicked out of the group, I asked Xiaobai for a month's leave, so I'm not qualified to give advice to others! But I will make up for it! There are too many unexpected busywork in our daily life, but as long as we take reading seriously, like it sincerely, and find it interesting, it is not a problem to interrupt it for a while, and it is not difficult to continue. Developing a habit actually means that if you don't do it, This matter is so frustrating. It is said that a habit lasts for 21 days, right?
Intensive Reading Notes: As Luan Hongmei said, there are always surprises in daily life, but as long as you are dedicated to reading, there will not be much difficulty.
Intensive Reader: If you want to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of reading, do you have any good suggestions for other readers?
Luan Hongmei: I have always advocated not being greedy for too much. A basket of rotten apricots is not as good as a peach. Pick a good book, read it carefully, and read it to your heart. This is the most important thing.
Notes from Intensive Reading: Any efficiency must be based on effectiveness. "Efficiency" that is just a quick glance is not as high-quality as savoring it carefully.

Even death is not boring
Jingdu Jun: Reading your article "Small Illness and Joy" reveals that you are quite talented. Positive and optimistic attitude. Your love for life can also be seen in your reading experience of "All Things Are Animistic and Beautiful". In your daily life, do you often look for the "little luck" in life? Can you give an example?
Luan Hongmei: I am an optimistic Sagittarius, and I probably have an innate personality. Even if I am extremely ill, I still feel that the doctor must have made a mistake, or that a miracle will always come, and I don’t even feel comfortable with death. Boring.
Of course, there will be times when you feel down. Whenever this happens, I count the days with my fingers. Either it’s time to exercise, or there are always those “few days” in a month, so I go for a run or fill myself with a hot water bottle.
Intensive Reading Jun’s Notes: It is inevitable that people will be depressed, and learning to self-regulate is the best way to improve. Just like Luan Hongmei often goes for a run, do you also have your own way of adjusting?
Jingdu Jun: What kind of work do you do? Please give us a brief introduction.
Luan Hongmei: I am a freelancer. Sometimes I help people with accounting, corporate internal control and processes, and do financial and tax consulting.
Jingdu Jun: Your avatar looks like a dog. Did you raise it yourself?
Luan Hongmei: No, I am Ye Gong Hao Long (laughing).
Jingdujun: I can see that you like small animals very much. It is also reflected in the reading experience of "All Things Are Animistic and Beautiful". Do you usually pay attention to some issues related to animal protection?
Luan Hongmei: Yes, I would also like to donate to animal protection organizations if possible.
Jingdu Jun: Besides reading, what other hobbies do you have? You also seem to like flowers.
Luan Hongmei: I am actually a miscellaneous person, full of curiosity and willing to try anything. I also teach myself painting. If I have nothing to do, I can watch ants moving all afternoon.
Intensive Reading Jun’s Notes: Love life, be curious about the world, be brave enough to try, and always keep a pure heart. Isn’t it a joy? 4
Reading is a lifelong practice
Jingdu Jun: Do you have any books that you would like to introduce to fellow readers?
Luan Hongmei: Mr. Zhu Guangqian has a small booklet "On Literature". The proses of Liang Shiqiu, Feng Zikai, and Zhang Zhongxing, the novels of Lao She, and the plays of Cao Yu are all worth taking the time to read carefully. And I have to mention Feng Youlan's "A Brief History of Chinese Philosophy".
Jingdu Jun: Most of the books you recommend belong to the classic literature category. Do you also give priority to such books when reading? How do you usually choose books to read for yourself?
Luan Hongmei: I usually read this kind of thing. Since ancient times, articles have been of the same family. You copy them, I copy them, and I copy them. Although it is a joke, it makes sense to some extent. The classics are actually enough for me to read. I also read books written by modern people, but not many. I always feel that they make people feel more irritated, especially the so-called chicken soup for the soul, which is simply harmful, except of course reference books. In fact, I think Jingdu’s book list is very good. First of all, I sincerely thank the Jingdu team for their selfless dedication!
Jingdu Jun: Do you often look for books you want to read based on the book list created by Jingdu Jun?
Luan Hongmei: Yes, 80% of what I read now is from the intensive reading list.
Jingdu Jun’s Notes: Jingdu Jun has currently listed more than 100 book lists, and 90 book lists have been compiled into collections. For details, please click: 90 book lists, there is always one suitable for you
Jingdu Jun: Thank you for your trust and support. In your opinion, is there anything that can be improved in Intensive Reading? Hope you can give me some suggestions.
Luan Hongmei: I often wonder if we can organize some activities for everyone to participate, such as formulating a central organization competition. I hope our intensive reading will become stronger and stronger!
Intensive Reading: I saw that you talked about the practice of time recording and statistics in "A Strange Life", and you have practiced it for a period of time. Do you continue to do it now? What impact does this have on you? Would you recommend it to fellow readers?
Luan Hongmei: I practiced it for two months, but then I didn’t stick to it because I always forgot to write it down. However, it still had a big impact. In the process of writing down, I always felt a sense of urgency unintentionally, just to do it. Important things, otherwise they will feel worthless. This improves efficiency and cures procrastination, which is amazing.
Intensive Reading Notes: Luan Hongmei explained the method of time recording and statistics as equivalent to recording a running account, with what was done and how long it took as a fixed format. At the end of the month, sort the things you have done into categories, add up the time, make a summary according to your own needs, and attach a chart. At the end of the year, make an annual summary based on the monthly summary, make a list, and then compare it with the items and time planned for this year to make a final accounting.
Jingdu Jun: Finally, please say something to the readers of Intensive Reading.
Luan Hongmei: Reading is a lifelong practice. Luan Hongmei's personal signature is "Love the sun and the moon." Jingdu Jun feels that this is very consistent with the optimistic, positive and life-loving mentality reflected in Luan Hongmei's articles during the interview. I hope you can be like her, both I love the blazing passion of the sun, and I also love the brightness and coolness of the moonlight.
