The appearance of katydids looks very much like locusts, also known as grasshoppers and katydids. If you look closely, you can find that their body armor is not as hard as that of locusts. More importantly, they have fine Like silk, tentacles longer than itself. The antennae of locusts are thick and short.
Katydids are called katydids in northern China. They are one of the larger species of song insects, with a body length of about 40 mm. Their bodies are mostly grass green, and some are gray or dark gray, with covered wings. It is membranous and fragile. The front beak is tilted downward, and the left wing usually covers the right wing. The hind wings are usually slightly longer than the forewings, and there are also short-winged or wingless species. Male forewings have articulators. There is a pair of hearing organs at the base of the tibia of the forefoot. The leg segments of the hind legs are very developed, with 4 tarsal segments. The tail is short and the ovipositor is knife-shaped or sword-shaped. Body length 10–50mm, mostly cylindrical, slightly flattened laterally. The head is in a lower mouth type. The antennae are generally longer than the body length. There is one pair of compound eyes, usually one eye is not obvious, but in a few species, one eye is obvious.
Chewing mouthparts, the lower jaw is longer and divided into 5 segments, and the lower lip is 3 segments. The pronotum is well developed, mostly saddle-shaped, some extend backwards, some are shorter, usually the front edge is slightly convex forward, and the rear edge is rounded; some areas behind the sulcus are raised. Some of the mesothoracic and metathoracic abdominal plates are relatively flat, and some bone fragments are raised. The front and middle feet are walking feet, and the hind feet are jumping feet. The back and abdomen of the feet are covered with spines and spurs. There are 4 tarsal segments, and except for the subfamily Tarsiidae, the 1st–2nd tarsal segments all have lateral grooves, and some have tarsal pads.
