Movie-The Thirty-sixth Story

I remembered a movie I watched before and wrote an essay. The name of the movie is The 36th Story.

The protagonist’s name is Duo’er, and his sister’s name is Qiang’er. The story begins in their coffee shop.

This coffee shop does not look very elegant or sentimental, but it is down-to-earth and close to life. Without modification, it has its own unique side.

It was filled with all kinds of strange and weird things. This was caused by Qiang'er's idea of ??bartering. Unexpectedly, it also attracted many customers to Duo'er's coffee shop.

Qiang'er just wanted to help her sister get a set of bone china and help herself get a car.

Duo'er was puzzled at first, because most of the guests came just to change things, and to taste coffee and eat snacks, it became a way to stop by. She doesn’t want customers to drink her coffee while trying to figure out the items, and she doesn’t want one of her skills to become a supporting role. Qiang'er defended herself. People are looking for places for these things, but they haven't found them yet.

Until the man who brought 35 bars of soap in exchange showed up and came to this cafe with stories about 35 cities. He told Doer that he hoped that another girl would write 35 love letters in exchange for his story of 35 bars of soap.

Who is this man? From beginning to end, all I know is that he was a co-pilot and visited 35 cities. I think he appeared for Duoer, and the relationship between them and this cafe is the 36th story.

This man told Duoer these 35 stories, including the Devil's Forest in Madagascar, the little boy who turned into a cactus, and the story of a person in Taipei. Duo'er had never been abroad, and these stories moved her heart. She drew pictures for each story. These things placed in the cafe are her window to see the world.

The man told Doer that bartering was a good idea, as many backpackers now do. Instead of staying in a hotel, they just borrow someone's sofa for the night. In this way, when you go abroad, you can borrow their sofa in turn. Between the simple responses, I saw something more valuable than money, which is the warmth of human kindness.

After the man finished telling his 35th story, he took back his 35 soaps and 35 of Doer’s paintings, saying that this was what he told Doer. In exchange for 35 stories. Later, he sent these paintings back to Duo'er and told her that these were his love letters. From now on, he would make coffee with her and write the story of the 36th city. It sounds very romantic.

But before that, Duoer had chosen to travel to these 35 cities and become a backpacker. Later, only this man was left waiting in the cafe.

Duoer handed her coffee shop to Qiang'er and gave her her car, but Qiang'er didn't get bone china for her.

Now, it is Duoer who travels around the world, and Qianger saves money. They have changed from their previous ideals.

Between them, I saw the exchange of items, the exchange of stories, and the exchange of human roles, but human feelings cannot be exchanged.

Before the coffee shop.

In the mother's decision of drawing lots, Duo'er continued to study, while Qiang'er went to travel around the world. It seems that Qiang'er is lucky and can go to many places. Duo'er is also good, because she has learned how to make coffee and desserts, and has admirable skills.

Many things. It’s just that what we hear and see is not what we feel with our hearts. Qiang'er said that she hated her mother for deciding such a life for her, and that the next place in her series of travels around the world was all arranged. Therefore, her life is always short. Falling in love and making friends always end in a hurry. Before going to the next place, she remembered her friend's face and her father's words, "Everyone's life is different. He has been to more places than you, but you have made deeper friends than him."

Qiang'er said that Duo'er devoted her youth to studying. She gained more knowledge, but became less and less confident. From time to time, she would receive postcards from Qiang'er from all over the world. When she is reading quietly at night, Doer will miss the life of hanging around with her puppy in her arms as a child, and telling it what this is and what that is.

Their lives seem to be one day at a time, but they also have their own unknown sufferings. They can only find a balance in their admiration for each other, because they are sisters.

Qiang'er has always insisted that she can only barter for real things. She seems to be heartless and inhumane towards people. Doer is willing to do this, letting a Japanese guest sing a song in exchange for a book, and letting a father paint a wooden horse for his child in exchange for it. I think Duo'er understands human kindness better than Qiang'er, and Qiang'er has more principles than Duo'er. These are what we need, and we also need another person to complement ourselves and complete ourselves.

I like this kind of bartering. For this money-materialistic world, this method is more real. This approach does not make the cafe less profitable, but it is a change from this popular and indifferent world. Every item here has its own exclusive memory. It's not a return to primitive life, but we need this purity.

Psychological value.

At the beginning of the movie, Doer mentioned this word, this novel value. To Dole, a nice-looking cup is more valuable than Babe Ruth's signature ball. In the eyes of that customer, that photo was more valuable than the Invincible Iron King Kong. In Qiang'er's opinion, as long as the customer is willing to order two more cups of coffee, it will be more valuable than the photo.

This is the psychological value she said.

In this barter, everyone has their own standards of measurement. It is easy for our psychological value to affect our emotions towards an item, something or a person. What is more valuable is not measured by money or public opinion. Whether you like it or not trumps many factors. It sounds idealistic, but it doesn't go against your will.

It’s like a sum of money gives you to study and travel around the world, what will your choice be? Different people will have different answers, but they are all about finding a way to make themselves feel comfortable.

Later, Duoer chose to travel around the world instead of saving money, and this is what Duoer said at the end.

Qiang'er felt guilty for not being able to replace her sister with bone china.

Duo'er said, things are always like this, and they won't all go according to your wishes. In this city, some people must be short of bone china, and some people must be rich in bone china. Some people must be short of sofas, and some people must have too many sofas. We just haven't found each other yet. This is the city, this is the story of the city day after day.

By bartering, you will lose something, but you will also gain something more. I saw that the heart for gains and losses was so light, so there would be no baggage.

This movie is a treasure for me. I like its light feeling, without ups and downs, and conveys some kind of spiritual food in just a few words. The colors of those pictures and the tunes of the background music tell us some reason for youth.
