Before I signed up for the clothing training class, I read some posts similar to my situation and sent private messages to some people, hoping to know relevant information.
Most of the feedback is divided into two aspects;
Some people just stay at the asking stage, and they have not taken the step of actually entering this field to study.
Some people actually studied fashion design, but the overall feedback was not very optimistic.
Give me a more representative feedback:
“I spent last year studying. Basically 90% of it was mainly about learning clothing technology and pattern making knowledge. . The design part is relatively weak.
If you want to study as a hobby, it is recommended to go to night school, which will not affect your work during the day.
If you want to pursue a career, just rely on training courses. It doesn't seem to be effective at the moment.
If you just want to make clothing after leaving everything behind, it is recommended to study abroad if possible, and you need to prepare a portfolio before going out.
The current situation of domestic clothing employment. It's quite bad, and the work content is also very boring. You can go to the threading forum to understand the current situation of the domestic industry. Also, I don't know if you have a foundation in art. Unless you are particularly self-disciplined and have a special sense for clothing, I don't recommend it. Take this career path."
After that, I asked her for advice on choosing training courses, and her feedback was:
Like design and being able to do it well are two different things. concept. It takes one year to learn both basic skills and design, so laying the foundation is more important. (Taking training courses) is quite rewarding for me, but it is not enough as a professional. The key is time and professionalism. If you want to make a career out of clothing, don't continue if you're not prepared to be lonely and suffer a lot. Passion alone is not enough, nor is technology alone. There are many people who have no choice in this business, or it has become a mechanical operation.
In any case, learning the most basic parts is the key. Fabric knowledge, craftsmanship and pattern making are the foundation of a clothing person. Maybe we are not very creative in design (yes, this requires talent) But if the first three items can be reached to the extreme, it will already make you feel the fun of making clothes. But learning it is very boring and repetitive, and there is no other way. Therefore, although many people have great ideas, they are unable to produce tangible objects.
In addition, you must have super strong execution ability to help you reach a high level technically. Being able to draw is not enough. You must practice, keep making clothes, and experiment.
If you ask me which one is more reliable, I think it’s okay if I think I am more reliable (you have to be diligent, ask more questions and take the initiative).
Based on the suggestions given by everyone, if you want to learn fashion design, you can add a skirt. The starting number is 778, the middle is 600, and the end is 396. Live broadcast every day to share fashion design tips, inside You can learn and communicate, there are also materials you can download, and there are also tutorial materials you can get
Weekend courses from October 2014 to May 2015, the learning content is: body, collar, sleeves, skirt, Flat pattern making of pants.
The teacher is an experienced pattern maker with good pattern making ability, but his teaching level is limited and it is difficult to teach the course in an easy-to-understand manner. The scholars are all laymen and often fall asleep during lectures.
There were more than a dozen people in the class at the same time, but in the last class there were only two other girls and me. Many people drop out halfway through the course.
I don’t regret my choice to sign up for training, but overall this learning experience was hard and inefficient. When I made my choice, I was interested in the environment and equipment of this training class, but I didn’t think more about the “course” itself.
Looking back, the training mechanism based on competition may be more dynamic than the single teaching mechanism/The training model of group cooperation may be more atmospheric than working alone/Experienced teachers who know how to explain things in simple terms may He is a better guide
Of course, I am fortunate to have made some friends. My favorite is a girl with a background as an architect who came to class with her boyfriend. She is now studying fashion in Milan. She has very good taste and will probably grow into an independent designer in the future.
I left Beijing after the training. At that time, I also thought about studying abroad to study clothing. Later, because I was more interested in writing, I put the clothing on hold.
Now when I look at creating clothing, I think it may be another form of writing: clothing, like words, can become a free extension of personal thoughts. It talks to you in silence. Wearing it on your body is a kind of promotion, it matches your personality and temperament. It may even give you the courage to explore the other side.
You can also use clothes to convey certain values ??(such as caution against artificial intelligence/criticism of groups engulfing individuals). Clothes will become a medium to help you get to know your peers.
If we talk about learning fashion design from scratch now, I might think that thinking about a concept, extending it, and opening it up would be more interesting and important. Then find a way to implement the concept, whether you do it yourself or find a pattern maker. Finally, it may be clearer to think about whether a training class is necessary. Doing more will get you there faster than thinking too much. This is my current experience.
