1. Why are there health requirements?
Australia enjoys the highest health standards in the world. In order to maintain these standards, all visa applicants must meet the health requirements stipulated in the immigration law before obtaining a visa to Australia.
Who needs a health check?
If the Immigration Department believes that the applicant's health status is related to the issuance of a visa, anyone who is going to Australia can be required to have a full-body examination and/or a chest X-ray.
If the applicant is over 1 1 years old and plans to stay in Australia for 3 to 12 months, X-ray chest examination is required.
If the applicant plans to stay in Australia for more than (inclusive) 12 months, a full-body examination and chest X-ray examination are required.
exceptional case
All applicants aged 70 and above, regardless of the length of medical treatment, must have a general examination. If the visit lasts for more than 3 months, X-ray chest X-ray examination is needed.
If the applicant may need to enter a hospital, a health care center, a classroom or a child care center in Australia, or if the applicant is a parent immigration applicant who is waiting in line, he will be required to have a full-body examination and/or a chest X-ray.
Trial process
If the application is likely to be approved, the visa office will contact the applicant (except student visa) within 10 working days after receiving the application, asking them to get the medical examination form and go to the approved hospital for medical examination, and then the doctor will send the medical examination results directly to the visa office. If any health hazards are found during the inspection, the visa office must send the results to the Australian Health Assessment Service (HAS) for further advice. According to the legal requirements, the visa office must accept the opinions of the Australian Health Assessment Service Center on whether the applicant meets the health requirements. Before issuing a visa, HAS can ask the applicant for further physical examination.
Influence of physical examination on visa application processing time
If a full-body examination and/or chest X-ray examination is required, the visa office will contact the applicant within 10 working days after receiving the application. The applicant is responsible for the necessary physical examination as soon as possible.
If the visa office needs to send the medical examination results to HAS, it will take about 4 weeks to receive the opinions of HAS. The HAD may require the applicant to undergo further physical examination, which will further prolong the processing time of the application.
49-day response time
At the time of the first physical examination, the results of the physical examination must be delivered to the visa office within 49 days after receiving the medical examination notice (from the date of signing the medical examination letter, and the student visa application from the date of signing the PVA letter).
If further physical examination is required, the applicant must go to the same hospital for the first physical examination within 49 days after receiving the notice (from the date of signing the physical examination letter), and the examination result depends on the examination content.
The hospital is designated by the Australian Embassy for physical examination, and the applicant must have a physical examination in one of them. Please arrive at the hospital as soon as possible within the time specified by the hospital (you can check it on the website at the latest, and the embassy will also inform you when it notifies you of the medical examination)
