The China government has always attached importance to the ASEM process and is an active participant and promoter of the process. Premier the State Council of China attended the previous Asia-Europe summits, actively advocated the concept of peace, openness, cooperation and development, expounded the basic principles of establishing a new Asia-Europe partnership, and put forward initiatives and propositions on strengthening political dialogue and consultation between Asia and Europe, deepening and upgrading economic and trade relations, strengthening cooperation in the field of environment and agriculture, expanding dialogue on cultural civilizations, and promoting youth exchanges. China initiated and hosted a number of ministerial conferences and other important activities, covering many fields, such as environment, culture, science and technology, small and medium-sized enterprises, customs, agriculture, justice and so on. It was the member who initiated the most ministerial conferences and made active efforts to promote Asia-Europe policy dialogue and pragmatic cooperation.
On October 24th and 25th this year, China will host the 7th Asia-Europe Summit in Beijing. This summit is the first gathering of leaders of 45 countries after the second round of ASEM expansion.
