The
Student
Permit (StudyPermit) visa issued by the Immigration Bureau when the applicant enters Canada is commonly known as the large visa. This visa only allows students to stay in Canada to study and cannot be used as a certificate for entry or exit. The Canadian student permit visa is usually valid for 1 year. When it expires, you must apply for an extension at the local immigration office. Under normal circumstances, if the applicant can successfully complete the first year of the course, he or she can apply to extend the validity period of the visa until the end of the study period.
StudyVisa is the "VISA" affixed to the applicant's passport. This type of visa is a voucher for the applicant's entry and exit, and can also be called an entry-exit visa. If the applicant is on vacation, visiting relatives, etc., the applicant must apply to the Immigration Bureau in advance to extend the "entry and exit visa", otherwise he may encounter the dilemma of being unable to re-enter Canada after returning to his country. If the applicant leaves the country temporarily, he must also apply for a re-entry visa, otherwise he will not be allowed to return to Canada.
Because the size of Visa is smaller than that of Study Permit, Visa is called a small signature and Study Permit is called a large signature. The major visa and minor visa cannot be processed at the same time. You can apply for a round-trip visa only if you ensure that you have a study visa; applying for a minor visa extension in China generally takes 5 working days.
1. Canadian Visa
According to reports, the Canadian Visa, namely Study Permit, is a document issued by the customs when students enter Canada for the first time. It is in the form of pages, so some people also call it big paper. The purpose of the visa is to prove the student's legal student status in Canada. From this perspective, it is somewhat similar to the I-20 for American students. However, the visa has a certain validity period. If the visa is not renewed upon expiration and the situation is serious (generally, the visa cannot be renewed more than three months at the latest), it will be regarded as illegal stay by the Immigration Bureau, and the visa will most likely be refused.
How to renew the visa: The Canadian Embassy requires students to apply at least 30 days in advance before the expiration of the visa. It is recommended to submit the application 3 months in advance. It should be noted that the application for renewal of Study Permit must be submitted within the validity period of the visa. There are two ways to renew. The first is to submit an application online. Students log on to the CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) website, register a My CIC, and then submit the application online. The second method is to send all application materials and forms to the following address:
Citizenship and Immigration – Study Permit Case Processing Center
6212 – 55th Avenue, Unit 101 Vegreville AB T9C 1X5
For most students, the required materials are:
1. Renewal application form IMM1294
2. Document list IMM5555
3. Copy of the first page of your passport, and copies of all passport pages showing entry and exit records to Canada
4. Admission letter from the school
5. Proof of funds
6. Copies of transcripts for the past two semesters (if your grades are good, you can submit more)
7. CAQ (only for students studying in Quebec)
No matter No matter how you submit your application, you will need to pay an application fee of 125 Canadian dollars. It is recommended that the application fee be submitted directly online via credit card. Log in and click the pay yourfees online hyperlink at the bottom of the page to pay.
PS: From anywhere in Canada, students can call the call center to request any information related to their visas. They can also call this number to have the embassy send you the forms and guidance to fill out for renewal. . The phone number is 1-888-242-2100.
2. Canadian small visa
The small visa is the VISA affixed to the student’s passport. It is understood that the validity period of the small visa varies depending on the specific circumstances, ranging from one year to four years. As long as the large visa has not expired, students do not need to leave the country. Even if the small visa expires, there is no need to renew it.
Last year, the two students I applied for to study in Canada as undergraduates received visas valid for 4 years. In this case, if the students return to China in their junior year, as long as their Study Permit has not expired, they do not need to renew their visas. , you can return to Canada with your current passport. This aspect is very different from the US F-1 student visa and deserves our attention.
How to renew a visa: For a visa, all materials and forms can be sent to the Canadian embassy in the United States or China. The material requirements vary according to the embassy. The material requirements of the Beijing Embassy are roughly the same as those when applying for a visa for the first time. You just need to prepare more transcripts from Canadian schools in the past two years and copies of all past study permits.
