Mourn the work and experience of Christ
Michelangelo was only 24 years old when he created this sculpture, which is also his only signed work. 1972, 33-year-old Austrian geographer laszlo Tos came to St. Peter's Cathedral. He climbed over the guardrail and beat the marble sculpture with a sledgehammer, shouting "I am Christ". After the virgin Mary's left eyelid, neck, head and headscarf fell off one by one, he broke the virgin Mary's left arm with one hand. Vatican staff found more than 50 marble fragments after the disaster, but more fragments were taken away by tourists. The restored sculpture is now placed in a display cabinet made of bulletproof glass.
