Good afternoon, parents. I am very happy to have such an opportunity to communicate face to face with you. I am an English teacher in classes 1, 6, 7, 8, and 10 of the second year. My surname is Zhao. Now I will make a report to parents on the students' English learning:
In the English class, most students can actively answer the questions raised by the teacher, actively follow the teacher to spell words and read the text aloud. In fact, this also creates an illusion. Students think that they are often asked questions by the teacher and think that they can answer the teacher's questions, so they think that they have learned English very well and feel very good about themselves. So I spent very little time on English after class.
In fact, to learn English well, class accounts for 40%, and the remaining 60% requires students to continuously consolidate and deepen their memory after class. In class, the teacher teaches more new knowledge. Of course, there will also be a small amount of time in class to consolidate the newly learned knowledge. But these times are public time, not each student's private time, so it is impossible to take care of every student, and it is impossible to let all students reach the same level. Moreover, each student's ability to accept new knowledge is different. Some may have a deep impression in class and it is difficult to forget it, but this is definitely very few. Most students can only have initial exposure to new knowledge. To truly accept new knowledge, students need to work harder after class, otherwise they will definitely fall behind other students.
So what should students do after class to make up for the remaining 60%? After all, English is not our own language. Most students would never think of speaking English except during English class. Therefore, they must take the initiative to take the time to tutor themselves in English after class. Learning English well is nothing more than working on listening, speaking, reading and writing.
First of all, let’s talk about listening. Every student has a tape that matches the book. But parents, please check your children’s English tapes. How many students’ tapes are still the same as when they were first issued? , never heard of it at all. Not to mention buying additional English listening tapes or English learning discs, if you don’t even listen to the tapes you have on hand, and just rely on listening to a few tapes in class, students’ listening skills will not develop at all. If you can't listen, you can't speak. To put it bluntly, learning English is all about speaking. If you can only listen but not speak, isn't it a waste of learning? I ask students to go home and read English for twenty minutes with a tape recorder every day, but how many students actually do it? Listen to the tape recorder and read along, not parrot what you hear. The knowledge you are reading has already been learned. Reading with the tape recorder should improve your listening and speaking skills. Students should try their best to imitate the pronunciation in the tape recorder, so as to improve their listening and speaking skills to a higher level.
The next step is to say that English is a language. To learn it is to speak it and communicate with others. The English we learn should not be dumb English, but every student must learn to speak it bravely. In class, I use various methods to stimulate students and stimulate their enthusiasm for speaking English. Most students do very well indeed. But there are many people in the class, and there are fewer opportunities for everyone to speak. So I have to say it after class; I have to say it when I get home from school. At school, I encourage students to apply the English dialogues they have learned to life, so that there are more real situations and more room for students to develop. At home, I hope parents can also encourage students to speak English. Maybe you will say that you can’t understand it yourself. Please don’t think so. In fact, students need your encouragement. After you listen to what they say, just give them a simple praise and they will understand. Very satisfied. Sometimes you can pretend to understand something you don't understand, or you can ask students to teach you in turn. They will feel very proud because what they have learned is put to use.
The next step is reading. There is a saying: "Reading thousands of volumes, writing is like a spirit." The same is true for learning English. Many parents also understand that learning English requires cultivating a sense of language, that is, a sense of language. If you have a good sense of language, then whether you are speaking, Doing questions and writing articles are all very easy and simple. So where does the sense of language come from? Just by reading it. Students must develop the habit of reading English every day. This is the most basic learning habit for learning English. This was the case when I first started learning English. I must read English for about 20 minutes every morning. Even if sometimes I don't have enough time, I have to read it even if I am late. I must persist every day and never stop for any reason. No matter what happens, persistence is the key. If your child has not developed such a study habit, please be sure to supervise him. It may be difficult at first, but over time, it will become a natural habit. Just like brushing your teeth and washing your face when you wake up in the morning, let them regard reading English as something they must do every day.
The last thing is writing. Second-grade English already has certain writing requirements for students. The first is words. Words are the most basic unit of sentences, paragraphs, and texts. Memorizing words is the only way to learn English. Words are often easily forgotten once they have been memorized, so there is no way to keep memorizing and revising them. I require students to memorize words while spelling and writing them, and their mouths and hands must move. It is better to say it ten times with your mouth than once with your hands. There are also sentence patterns. The words that second graders are exposed to are very simple daily expressions. Students should understand the meaning and usage of sentence patterns in class. But later, you need to read more texts and practice more to consolidate the sentence patterns you have learned.
Therefore, parents please not only pay attention to your children's memorization of words, but also let them pay attention to the importance of sentences.
In short, parents please pay more attention to your children’s English learning and help them develop good English learning habits. Parents' attention will increase students' confidence and improve students' learning enthusiasm. Instead of seeing unsatisfactory scores at the end of the term that no one wants to see, it is better to pay more attention to the learning process of your children in normal times. It’s not that we should focus on the process. We also hope that families and schools can work together to improve children’s English learning level.
The following are the specific measures we hope parents can cooperate with:
1. Make sure that the children listen to the recording and read the text for at least 15 minutes every day. To read out the sound, it is best for parents to Supervision will be more effective.
2. Check whether the children’s homework is completed every day and ensure that it can be handed in on time the next day.
3. The dictation of English words requires the signature of the parent (indicate the dictation). Make sure it is written dictally and not copied.
4. The preview homework is to listen to the recording and read the text and words (Parts A and B). Parents can sign next to the topic to indicate that they have previewed, etc. The memorized assignments will be signed as memorized.
5. Don’t rely entirely on after-school English tutoring. No matter how qualified the teacher is, mastering knowledge ultimately depends on students’ solid learning.
Having said so much, I hope we can achieve the same goal: to support and help children learn English well in a down-to-earth manner.
Finally, thank you again for your support. I hope our students can become "dragons" and "phoenixes" with the joint efforts of schools, teachers, and parents.
