Zheng Shiling was awarded the Knight Medal of the Order of Italy, the highest honor
Many years ago, Professor Zheng Shiling, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, had already become famous. He had won many honors at home and abroad, but when it came to receiving the knighthood This is the first time for a medal. The Order of Knighthood is a national honor, and the "certificate" awarded to Zheng Shiling also has the signatures of the President of Italy and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Zheng Shiling served as a visiting scholar at the School of Architecture of the University of Florence from 1984 to 1986. Before going abroad, he originally planned to go to Germany. After strengthening his German language for a year, he finally got a place to study abroad in Italy by "accidentally". It was this unexpected fate that made him develop an indissoluble bond with Italy. During his time in Italy, he visited almost every city in the country. Every weekend, he met with the "Italy-China Friendship Association of Florence" "Brothers" participate in various activities together.
“What impressed me most was the friendliness of the Italians towards the Chinese.” Zheng Shiling recalled that one winter in 1985, he went to the University of Naples to give a lecture. Any teacher is allowed to enter. But when the student guarding the door learned that the person who came was Chinese, he made an exception and opened the door. Zheng Shiling became the only teacher teaching that day.
After returning to China, Zheng Shiling has been committed to Sino-Italian cultural exchanges. Many professors who are very famous in Italy came to Shanghai to teach students through his introduction. The planning of Pujiang Town, one of the "One City and Nine Towns", was designed by his old friend Grigoti. In addition, Professor Latina, an expert in historical preservation, visited Shanghai before his death and made suggestions for the protection of the Bund Source. At the same time, in order to make academic exchanges between China and Italy more convenient, the School of Architecture of the University of Rome has set up a foreign affairs office and sent graduate students to China to learn from it.
