Ji Hongchang, formerly known as Ji Hengli, was born in a poor peasant family in Lvtan Town, Fugou County, Henan Province. His father Ji Maosong opened a small teahouse in the town. Because of his poor family, Ji Hongchang helped his father in the teahouse since he was a child.
Ji Hongchang has been a hard nut since he was a child. He refuses to be bullied and often fights with others. Every time he fights outside and gets into trouble, Gifford often chases after him and hits him with a pole. Therefore, Ji Hongchang, a teenager, has a nickname "cold shoulder pole".
He was the first military and civilian congress of the anti-Japanese coalition forces to appoint Ji Hongchang as the commander-in-chief of Qianbei Road Army. Ji Hongchang led the anti-Japanese coalition and set off for Zhangbei anti-Japanese front on June 20th.

In 197 1, Premier Zhou Enlai commented on Ji Hongchang: "Comrade Ji Hongchang was an old soldier and later joined the * * * production party. He died very bravely and peacefully. He should publish his deeds! "
In 2009, he was named as one of the 100 hero models who made outstanding contributions to the founding of New China. On September 1 day, 2004, it was included in the first list of 300 famous anti-Japanese heroes announced by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
Ji Hongchang's Tomb is located in the Martyrs Cemetery in the western suburbs of Zhengzhou. His tomb was built into a rectangle with cement, and there was a stone tablet in front of it, with a porcelain statue of Ji Hongchang martyr embedded in its head. There are monuments and memorial pavilions 90 meters away from the mausoleum. The monument is engraved with eight characters "Ji Hongchang Martyrs Monument" inscribed by Hu Yaobang. Tomb No.4 Zhou Songbai is green and solemn.
