Extended data:
The dharma name, that is, the Taoist name, is the name given by the teacher to his disciples according to his own Sect, and the original surname is kept. The middle word must be a factional inheritance word, and the words behind it can be chosen at will. Teachers usually take dharma names.
If the disciple's original surname is added, the word faction is added between the surname and the first name. If the original name is three words, the first word of the name is usually removed and the faction is added.
Each Sect has its own genealogy of words, which has been passed down from generation to generation. The dharma name must have been given to the disciples by the master after learning it with a teacher.
Lay disciples (lay people) will apply for a conversion certificate and will be given a dharma name after joining the teacher. The conversion certificate will specify sects, common names and other matters.
