Expressway, referred to as expressway for short, refers to the expressway dedicated to high-speed driving of automobiles.

Expressway has different regulations in different countries and regions, different times and different scientific research and academic fields. According to China's Technical Standard for Highway Engineering (JTG B0 1-20 14), the expressway is a multi-lane highway for cars to travel in different directions and lanes, and all access is controlled. The annual average daily design traffic volume of expressway should be above 15000 passenger cars, and the design speed is 80- 120km.
