In July of 1947, on the eve of the "August 23 artillery battle", the confrontation situation in the Taiwan Strait rose. In order to fulfill the expectation of former President Jiang Gong "integration of defense and civilian technologies", the Ministry of Education, together with the Ministry of National Defense, the Salvation Army, the provincial government and other relevant units, formulated the method of "summer training for college students", which was conducted by the training centers of the army.
According to the regulations, college students should attend the summer training for 12 weeks in the summer vacation one year before graduation to complete the enlistment education of reserve officer training. Those who pass the final examination of university training will no longer receive enlistment education once they graduate and receive reserve officer training. It can be said that in the early days, academy training was the cultivation education of former officials. It is worth mentioning that there is a strict rule in university training: those who fail in military training at school should take a make-up exam before summer training, but those who still fail after the make-up exam are not allowed to participate in summer training and lose their rights as officials.
The collective life in Chenggongling is the first time for many students, and the paid class teacher teaches how to label clothes. However, people who were trained in the early years said at a glance that they used to wear wide underwear.
Due to the scattered training venues and the increasing number of college students, the Ministry of National Defense established the Army Reserve Training Headquarters in Taichung County on 19531February 16, and renamed it "Chenggongling Training Center Headquarters" in 1978. The original annual summer training is not enough to accommodate the increasing number of college students year by year, and finally it is increased to three times (one cold training and two summer training). The training time was shortened from the original twelve weeks to eight weeks, "6 1" was changed to six weeks, "82" was five weeks, and "85" was four weeks, until today.
At that time, college students passed the final exam in Chenggongling as long as they got good grades in military training at school. Due to the large increase of college students, the pre-employment measures were cancelled in "five or five years". In the future, Chenggongling will only be responsible for the training of college students, and the training will not be as strict as in earlier years.
"What is reasonable is training, and what is unreasonable is tempering." Every student who comes out of Chenggong Mountain can understand the meaning of this sentence.
The main courses for college students are: patriotism education, life education and military education. As soon as students enter the gate of Chenggong Mountain, life education will begin immediately. From sewing famous brands, cleaning the house and folding angular quilts, they are all part of life education. Especially folding quilts, I don't know how many heroes I smashed. People often get up at three o'clock in the middle of the night to fold quilts.
In just four weeks, there are many things to learn, and the new college soldiers seem a little worried.
Tidy up your appearance, correct your posture, and get rid of bad habits ..... The next course has come out. It's not that students who are too delicate and lazy at home can't stand secretly complaining and crying. In addition, the monitor intentionally or unintentionally revealed that those who failed the final exam should stay for training, which scared the students to be careless in class. Many people didn't go to the "tuba" for a week because they were too nervous.
The most tiring thing is military education, from basic coach, combat coach, weapon training and live-fire shooting to the "shocking education" that students are both afraid and looking forward to-shooting with machine guns overhead, and students crawl under the low barbed wire with guns.
Thirty or forty years ago, Chenggong Mountain was still a barren land with no house, no road and no water to drink. At that time, the country was poor, the army was poor and the people were even poorer. All living conditions depend on themselves. The roads, trees and turf around Chenggongling and the camp were built by the calloused hands of officers and men.
The gun is loaded and the target range is red. I really hope that people in the next century will never have to meet.
The most bitter thing is that there is no water to drink. Think about it, in the hot summer, thousands of students are waiting to drink water and take a bath. How much water do you need a day? Lieutenant General Miao Zhongying, then head of the third regiment of the First Preparatory Division, recalled: "Pumping water from the mountain to the mountain every day not only consumes electricity, but also leaves no water after two hours, and students complain!" In order to cope with the huge daily water consumption, it was not until 60 years after the Republic of China that an underground water tower was built to store a large amount of water and tap water was used instead.
Shock education is the climax before successful training, and it is not easy to pass.
Everyone who has been to Chenggongling remembers that because water is hard to come by, the chief told everyone to save water. As Taiwan Province Province is located at the junction of subtropical zone and tropical zone, students practice in the scorching sun, and heatstroke is often heard. 1980, three summer training college students died of heatstroke, all because of lack of drinking water. So, since then, the summer training in Chenggongling has specially drawn up an "irrigation plan", which lists how much water to drink every day from getting up, doing morning exercises, before doing morning exercises, doing morning exercises in the afternoon and before going to bed. Now every dormitory on the ridge has ventilation equipment, and there are large electric fans to serve in summer, for fear that students will be too hot to sleep. As for bathing, according to Tong Hanlin, press officer of Chenggong Mausoleum, bathing is divided into three steps, and there is plenty of time. Success Ridge is becoming more and more "humanized", which is also forced by the change of time and space. According to Major Yang, who has supervised and trained college babies for more than ten years, there are only one or two children in modern families, and parents are unwilling to let their children suffer. However, this generation of children are spoiled, and their tolerance for setbacks has decreased a lot, so it is difficult to adapt to the military life that pays attention to team spirit. The natural army must also adjust its training methods and course contents according to the current situation. However, it has also attracted criticism. The specialized training in Chenggongling is more and more like a "summer camp", which can no longer be compared with the specialized training in earlier years.
In the early years, there were few college students, and "Success Ridge" represented honor and glory. For someone in the family, it is considered a great honor to go to Chenggongling to participate in the training of university classes. In order to reassure parents, every step of Chenggongling will arrange a cordial meeting, which will bring parents and their beloved son together and let parents see the progressive side of the camp.
At that time, parents came to Chenggong Mountain to visit their son by train, but with the increase of national income, almost every family drove to the base to visit relatives, which made the traffic near Chenggong Mountain unable to move every holiday. Take July of the Republic of China as an example, 12,000 students were trained. On the day of the friendly meeting, more than 60,000 people, 20,000 cars and 400 buses poured into Chenggong Mountain, causing traffic jams on the expressway from Changhua to Wangtian and then from the south to Fengyuan.
