The national flag guard belongs to the honor guard of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The Tiananmen National Flag Guard, formerly known as the Tiananmen National Flag Class of the Armed Police, took over from the China People's Liberation Army Garrison on February 28th 1982, and officially took on the task of raising and lowering the national flag and guarding the national flag post in Tiananmen Square.
