Grandpa Mao. This is the guiding principle put forward by Mao Zedong for the people's army to carry out guerrilla warfare extensively when the enemy is strong and we are weak, which is referred to as the "sixteen-character formula of guerrilla warfare" for short.
The 16-character formula originated from a couplet made by Mao Zedong at the swearing-in meeting of the Soviet army and people in Xiaobu, Ningdu, Jiangxi on February 25th, 930. The original couplet is:
Guerrilla warfare can only be won if the enemy advances and retreats, if the enemy is stationed and harassed, if the enemy is tired and I fight, and if the enemy retreats and I chase;
Advance and retreat in moderation, lure the enemy deeper, concentrate forces, split in two, and destroy the enemy by mobile warfare.
Later, the first 16 words of these two sentences became the guiding principles for the armed forces of the * * * Party to carry out guerrilla warfare and mobile warfare respectively. Only the sixteen words about mobile warfare can be interpreted as: striding forward, striding backward, concentrating superior forces and annihilating each other.
