Present situation of Taiping Lake in Beijing
The "New Taiping Lake" was not rebuilt on the original site, but was formed by widening and transforming the Xizhimen culvert of the northern moat to Xinjiekou Street. The original section of the river is a trapezoidal spillway, about four or five meters deep. The berm is high and steep, and the river water level is low. People can't see the river without looking down. After the reconstruction, the river bottom fill is raised, the slope protection is slowed down, and the river course is widened, forming a lake landscape with an area of 1 0,000 square meters and a water depth of only 1.3 meters.

The water source of Taiping Lake comes from Miyun Reservoir and flows into Songlinmen, the north moat, through Jingmi diversion canal, Kunyu River, Changhe River and Zhuanhe River. The pump of Songlin sluice is lifted to the exit of Xizhimen culvert and injected into Taiping Lake, and then flows into the north moat. In order to maintain the water quality of the lake, in addition to planting aquatic plants such as lotus, water lily and calamus, two artificial waterfalls and eight aerators have been built in the lake. At present, aquatic animals such as fish and snails have appeared in the lake.
