At this critical moment, the soldiers ran out of ammunition and the brothers were blocked by the enemy and could not come to reinforce. The company commander Bai ordered all weapons to be destroyed, and rifles were kept, bayonets were mounted, and they were ready for the final struggle with the enemy. The four companies fought from dawn to dusk and spent twelve hours in extremely tense, cruel and tragic fighting. Just then, the leading organs on the north bank of Liutang River crossed the criss-crossing river network and moved safely from Zhangweizi. The epic performance of the four company soldiers is a heroic poem, and they have made immortal contributions to the cause of national liberation.

After the war, the comrades of the New Fourth Army mourned in unison, determined to March forward with the blood of martyrs and vowed to avenge them. In order to commemorate these anti-Japanese heroes forever, Huaihai people built a tall mausoleum beside the traffic ditch. The middle of the tombstone reads "Tomb of the Eighty-two Martyrs", and the cemetery is planted with pine and cypress, covered with flowers and couplets. Li Yimang, one of the leaders of Huaihai District, made a couplet:
