The "boycott of Japanese goods" succeeded.
It should be said that boycotting Japanese goods is an old topic in the history of China. The earliest boycott of Japanese goods was in 1908, when the Japanese navy detained Japanese ships smuggling weapons near Macau, which triggered a diplomatic dispute between China and China. Subsequently, the Guangdong Merchants Federation launched the first boycott of Japanese goods in China's modern history.

During the May 4th Movement, China launched the most vigorous boycott of Japanese goods around the ownership of the Shandong issue at the Paris Peace Conference, with obvious results.
In 19 18, Japan accounted for 44.9% of the total exports of big countries to China, but it continued to decline after 19 19, and it fell to 24.5% in 192 1 year; 1923, due to the recovery of Lushun and Dalian, Japan boycotted the resurgence of Japanese goods. At that time, Japan's exports to China only accounted for 24.2% of the total exports to China.
In the "boycott of Japanese goods" movement in China in the first half of the 20th century, the commodities involved were relatively simple, mainly cotton cloth, daily necessities and other light industrial products, including Japanese mining production in China. During this period, the direct export of Japanese capital to China on a large scale was relatively small, and the boycott was easy to happen and achieve its goal.
Boycott of Japanese goods is also helpful to the development of national industry. The competition between China and Japan in textile industry is fierce, while boycotting Japanese coarse fabrics reduces the competition with cotton mills in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Nanyang Brothers Tobacco Company also made a fortune during the boycott of Japanese goods. The company has been promoting products with the theme of boycotting foreign goods and revitalizing domestic products.
China boycotted Japanese goods for the first time in the late Qing Dynasty.
1February 5, 908, the Japanese ship "Chen Er Maru" carried out arms smuggling activities in Jiuzhouyang, the territorial waters of China near Macau. The patrol boat of Guangdong Navy in the Qing Dynasty heard the news and went to search. The navy detained the crew and weapons on board and lowered the Japanese flag on board.
People in Guangzhou are burning Japanese goods.
After this incident, on February 14, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused China of violating Japan's interests and insulting the Japanese flag, and lodged a serious protest with the Qing government. Portuguese colonialists also have ulterior motives, slandering the anti-smuggling action of China Navy as "infringing on Portugal's coastal rights and obstructing its sovereignty". Japan pursues its robber logic and pushes its luck. 13 on March 3rd, five unreasonable demands were put forward to the Qing government, such as the immediate release of "Chen Er Pill", the punishment of China officers and naval officers who handled the matter, public apology to Japan, compensation for all losses of Japan, and compensation for all arms carried by China on board. On March 15, the foreign affairs department of the Qing government accepted the Japanese request.
After the news reached Guangzhou, people from all walks of life were extremely angry. On March 18, 2008, thousands of people gathered in the yamen of Guangdong and Guangxi to petition, demanding that Governor Zhang state his interests to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reject Japan's conditions. At the same time, Xu Qin and Xu Fosu called a Cantonese rally in Shanghai to advocate boycotting Japanese goods. However, the Qing government feared the enemy like a tiger and ignored it.
On March 19, Chen Huipu, president of Guangdong Chamber of Commerce, and others called a meeting attended by more than 10,000 people, and designated it as the National Shame Memorial Day. Members of the Guangdong Merchants Association proposed to launch a boycott of Japanese goods, and all the participants responded, determined to carry forward the spirit of 1905 Guangdong people's boycott of American goods and protest against Japan's criminal acts. Someone immediately proposed to investigate the situation of Japanese goods in Guangdong. Before the meeting, a businessman took the Japanese goods stored in the shop to the meeting place and burned them. After the meeting, "for a time, businessmen from all walks of life abandoned Japanese goods." More than a thousand people gathered again, holding high the banner of "saving national rights", giving speeches along the street and posting slogans such as "Don't buy Japanese goods" and "burn Japanese goods". When Wen Zongyao, the general manager of the Westernization Bureau, wanted to apologize for firing a gun at a Japanese warship, the Guangdong Chamber of Commerce led the crowd to stop him, scaring Wen Zongyao away. The masses also spontaneously held a memorial service to commemorate Feng, a patriot who committed suicide by jumping into the sea in protest against American atrocities, in order to stimulate anti-Japanese sentiment. On March 22, the Japanese ambassador to China asked the Qing court to ban Cantonese people from boycotting Japanese goods.
During this period, in Guangzhou, "Japanese goods almost withdrew from the market, and Japanese businessmen suffered countless losses." The wave of opposition to Japanese goods soon spread to Shanghai, Wuzhou, Nanning, Hong Kong and other places. "The impact is as great as that of ports in Southeast Asia and America, and it has been persistent for several years."
1908 The Guangzhou People's Boycott of Japanese Goods was initiated and led by the Guangdong Merchants Association and other merchant organizations. This is the first time that China boycotted the Japanese goods movement. From the end of March to April, in Guangzhou alone, Japanese goods imports decreased by 3 million yuan. In the past two years, 1908 and 1909, Japan's exports to China decreased by 25 million yuan and 850,000 yuan respectively compared with 1907.

Resolution of the Central Committee on boycotting Japanese goods
(1August 27, 932)
The crazy aggression of Japanese imperialism and the rapid recovery and increase of trade exports to China have fully exposed the shameless mask of the Kuomintang's so-called "anti-Japanese" and "arrival of goods" in front of the broad masses of the people, which has separated the workers, peasants and urban petty bourgeoisie from the influence of the Kuomintang and set off a new wave of anti-Japanese and anti-Kuomintang anger.
It is estimated that various terrorist groups (such as the Blood Soul Anti-traitor Group and the Youth Salvation Group) have recently discovered movements against Japanese goods all over the country, which fully shows the urgent demand of the working people and the petty bourgeoisie for boycotting Japanese goods in the anti-Japanese and anti-Kuomintang struggle.
However, due to the party's passivity and abandonment of opportunism led by the arrival movement, the masses can't get correct leadership, which leads to the wrong path of the current arrival struggle, which is used by the bourgeoisie, the Kuomintang and the reactionaries to deliberately exaggerate this horrible effect, so as to prevent the arrival movement from developing into the road of mass revolutionary struggle.
In the people's emergency competition for goods, the whole party immediately realized the instructions repeatedly pointed out by the Central Committee in the past: "We must resolutely boycott Japanese goods and take the leadership of boycotting Japanese goods into our own hands", and we can no longer tolerate any negativity. The whole party must:
First, immediately organize public inspection of Japanese goods among workers, students and working people (such as Japanese goods inspection team, investigation team, ten-member team, picket team and Japanese goods consignment team), and set up a mass goods arrival Committee to carry out goods arrival work.
Second, oppose and refuse to load and unload all Japanese goods among dockers, railways, seafarers and laborers, organize teams to inspect Japanese goods, confiscate Japanese goods immediately, and distribute the confiscated goods to these striking workers. This is the first and most important task in the arrival movement.
Third, resolutely lead unemployed workers, refugees and urban poor and their families to check Japanese goods in stacks, shops and docks, and lead these people to automatically confiscate Japanese goods to relieve the hunger and poverty of the masses.
Fourth, in Japanese enterprises (especially cotton mills, flour mills and mines), we should make use of and seize factories where workers' anti-Japanese sentiment and economic interests are most urgent, and organize workers to compete for goods against Japan. Organize workers to stop Japanese goods from leaving the factory, confiscate the Japanese goods sold, and mobilize these workers who are familiar with Japanese goods to inspect Japanese goods at docks, warehouses and shops, confiscate Japanese goods, and use the confiscated Japanese goods to help anti-Japanese workers.
Five, among the shop assistants, the leaders organized the shop assistants to expose and inspect the smuggled and counterfeit Japanese goods hidden by profiteers and capitalists, and automatically confiscated them.
6. Leading workers, students and the urban poor to surround and inspect anti-Japanese conferences controlled by reactionaries such as the Kuomintang in the past. All Japanese goods confiscated by the chamber of commerce are required to be handed over to the masses immediately. If there are facts that refuse to check, conceal or engulf, we should lead the masses to openly try these elements in the people's courts and give them the most severe sanctions (parading the streets, fines and even handing them over to the masses for death) in order to fight against the Kuomintang and all reactionaries.
Seven, in the yellow trade union, the revolutionary opposition should resolutely lead, launch and organize the inspection and confiscation of Japanese goods, expose the so-called legal procedures of the yellow trade union and the truth of covering up and embezzling Japanese goods, and mobilize the masses to oppose the yellow trade union.
Every party member, league member and red trade union member should be the leader and organizer of the arrival movement. All struggles of the masses, the party, the league and the trade union should be closely linked with the arrival movement. Any small arrival movement must be led and organized into a mass arrival movement, and the leadership of the arrival movement must be absolutely guaranteed under the leadership of the working class. To expose the Kuomintang, the national bourgeoisie and all reactionaries is not to suppress their deceptive and arbitrary propaganda, but to expose the mistakes made by terrorist groups in separating themselves from the masses and distrusting them, causing them disappointment and pessimism and the danger of hindering the development of the mass revolutionary struggle. It is the most effective and correct way to point out the experience of strikes in provinces and ports.
In order to ensure the actual implementation of the anti-Japanese commodity movement, we must ruthlessly crack down on the right opportunism that empty talk replaces the actual anti-Japanese commodity movement, and cover up the negativity of giving up leading the anti-Japanese commodity movement with the "left" view that "resisting Japanese goods is the slogan of the bourgeoisie", so as to lead the mass anti-Japanese commodity movement to the right path, carry out the anti-Japanese commodity movement with practical actions, and further develop the climax of the mass struggle against Japan, imperialism and the Kuomintang.

But globalization makes it impossible to resist.
The wave of globalization after the Second World War, especially after the end of the Cold War, is capital-led globalization. Under this globalization mode, "commodity" is no longer the main factor of transnational flow, but "capital". The complexity, secrecy and ubiquity of transnational capital pose a great challenge to the traditional "goods for goods" movement.

Boycott Japanese goods (3 pieces)
First of all, the composition of capital has become transnational and international, dominated by multinational companies with huge capital and continuous mergers and acquisitions. They no longer have very clear nationality. For example, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation of Japan on the "boycott of Japanese goods" list is actually controlled by Daimler-Chrysler (holding 37% of the shares), which was formed by the merger of Daimler-Benz of Germany and Chrysler of the United States. So the capital from Germany, America and Japan controls Mitsubishi. If Mitsubishi Motors is on China's "boycott" list, its interests will be directly affected by Daimler-Chrysler, the world's third largest automobile manufacturer.
Secondly, the products of multinational corporations are highly internationalized in the production process. The so-called "Japanese goods" are no longer cotton cloth produced by Japanese cotton mills or goods imported from Japan, but usually goods or services with Japanese core components, intellectual property rights and marketing programs. A considerable part of Sino-Japanese trade is this hidden "Japanese goods".
