Shapotou National Nature Reserve in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is located at the southeast edge of Tengger Desert in the west of zhongwei, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It starts from Erdaogou South Forest Protection Room in the east, reaches Toudaodun in the west, connects Tengger Desert in the north and the Yellow River in the south. It is about 38km long and 5km wide, with an altitude of1.300 ~1.500m, with a total area of 4,599.3 hectares, accounting for 3% of the total land area of zhongwei.
It is one of the 20 key desertification control areas in China. Now it is a national AAAAA-level tourist scenic spot, a national desert ecological nature reserve, a top 500 environmental protection unit in the world, 20 famous national fitness scenic spots and a special prize for scientific and technological progress.
Shapotou integrates desert, Yellow River, mountain and oasis, with magnificent northwest and beautiful south of the Yangtze River. There is the largest natural sliding sand field in China, the "first rope of the Yellow River in the world" across the Yellow River, the ancient waterwheel and sheepskin raft represented by the Yellow River culture, the oldest means of transportation on the Yellow River, and a rare mirage in the desert.
Climatic characteristics of Shapotou in Zhongwei
Nature reserves belong to temperate continental climate, and belong to temperate arid climate zone in national natural division. It has the characteristics of drought and little rain, strong evaporation, large temperature difference between hot and cold, abundant sunshine, big sandstorm, long cold winter and short hot summer, warm spring and cool autumn, and many meteorological disasters. The annual average total solar radiation is 6.2× 10J/m, sunshine hours are 2776.72 hours, and the annual average temperature is 9.6℃. The lowest temperature in January is -25. 1℃. The highest temperature in July is 38.65438 0℃, and the highest temperature in the whole year is 63.2℃. The accumulated temperature ≥ 10℃ is 30 17℃, and the average frost-free period ≥0℃ is 179 days.

The annual sandstorm duration is more than 900 hours, the annual average wind speed is 2.8m/s, the sandstorm days are mostly from March to June, and the maximum wind power can reach 8. Strong winds are often accompanied by sandstorms, averaging 5 ~ 19 days a year. The wind direction is mostly northwest wind. The main disastrous weather includes drought, frost, strong wind, rainstorm, hail, dry and hot wind, low temperature and chilling injury.
