Hunan Vocational College of Water Conservancy and Electric Power is located in Changsha City, Hunan Province, and is affiliated to Hunan Provincial Water Resources Department. It is a full-time public water conservancy institution approved by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and filed by the Ministry of Education. It is a national water conservancy higher vocational education demonstration college, a national high-quality water conservancy higher vocational college and the first batch of high-skilled personnel training bases in the water conservancy industry.

The college, formerly known as Hunan Water Conservancy Technical School, was founded in 1980. It has experienced the development stages of Quantang Branch of Hunan Water Conservancy and Hydropower School and Hunan Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering School. In 2005, it was upgraded and renamed as Hunan Water Conservancy and Hydropower Vocational and Technical College.

2021August College official website shows that the college covers an area of 666.9 mu with a building area of 20 1800 square meters. There are 7 teaching units and 32 higher vocational colleges, with 382 teaching staff and nearly 9,000 students.

From 20 19 to 2020, the college's vertical research funding will reach 7 146800 yuan, and two provincial vocational education teaching reform research projects, two provincial education science "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" projects, three provincial education department research projects and four provincial water conservancy science and technology projects will be established.
