Abstract: The development of tourism depends on local environmental conditions. As a pillar industry of tourism, the hotel industry's efforts in effectively protecting the environment and rationally utilizing resources are directly related to the healthy development of tourism and the sustainable development of society. Therefore, the environmental management of hotels has been put on the agenda, and creating "green hotels" is the inevitable choice for modern hotels to take the road of sustainable development. By thinking about the achievements and existing problems in the establishment of green hotels in China, this paper discusses the ways to solve the problems, which will inspire the enterprises that are creating and will soon create "green hotels".

With the advent of the green era, people launched a series of "green movements" to pursue the harmony between man and nature, which penetrated into all aspects and gradually set off a "green wave" on a global scale. "Green Hotel" is produced under such a "green wave". At present, there is no clear definition of "green hotel". One view is that green hotels refer to those hotels that provide products and services that are in line with making full use of resources, protecting the ecological environment and are harmless to the human body. The development of green hotels must be based on the carrying capacity of the ecological environment and conform to the local economic development and moral concepts. Another view is that a green hotel is to take a series of effective soft and hard measures to minimize the impact of the hotel on the environment, save energy and reduce consumption, reduce the operating cost of the hotel, and realize the unity of environmental protection and hotel economic benefits with less investment. According to the viewpoint of sustainable development, the operation and development of green hotels should not only meet the needs of contemporary people, but also do no harm to future generations. In other words, the products provided by green hotels to the society must meet the requirements of making full use of resources, protecting the ecological environment and being harmless to human health. With the coming of "green era", green hotels will have broad development prospects in the hotel industry and will become the mainstream of hotel development in 2 1 century.
Chapter 1 The meaning of green hotel
The so-called green hotel (GreenHote 1) refers to a hotel that adheres to the concept of saving resources and protecting the environment in the process of hotel construction and management, and takes energy saving and consumption reduction as its business behavior, so as to create safer and healthier services for consumers. In April, 2002, China Green Hotel Development Forum held by China Hotel Association agreed that "green hotel" refers to a hotel that applies the concepts of safety, health and environmental protection, adheres to green management, advocates green consumption, protects ecology and makes rational use of resources, and its core is to provide customers with "green rooms" and "green dining" that meet the requirements of safety, health and environmental protection.
The core of green hotel is to provide customers with comfortable, safe and healthy green rooms and restaurants, and to strengthen environmental protection and rational use of resources in the process of production and operation. The meaning of green hotel: the "green" of green hotel has three meanings: First, the service itself is green. That is to provide customers with comfortable, safe and green rooms and green restaurants that meet the requirements of human health. Second, the items used in the service process are green. It is required that all items used for service are safe and environmentally friendly. Third, pay attention to ecological protection and rational utilization of resources in the process of operation and management. In short, on the premise of ensuring the quality of service, we should try our best to save energy and reduce consumption, pollution and waste discharge.
The guiding ideology of green hotel: take environmental friendliness as the concept, integrate environmental friendly behavior and environmental management into hotel management, implement the purpose of environmental protection, economy, health and safety, adhere to green management and resource conservation, build a green consumption hotel, protect the ecological environment and make rational use of resources.
The second chapter is the development status of "Green Hotel" in China.
2. 1 The development of green hotels in China is slow.
As of July 2007 1, the total number of star hotels in China has exceeded 13900. Since the National Tourism Administration issued the industry standard of "Green Tourism Hotel", it has actively promoted the establishment of green tourism hotels. At present, there are nearly 1800 green tourist hotels in l4 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, but the number has not increased rapidly, and a large number of hotels have not joined the ranks of creating green hotels. Due to the limitation of capital and technology, the development process of hotel greening is restricted. Therefore, although the operation of green hotels in China has made a good start, they still do not have the awareness of green management on the whole, and traditional and unsustainable management concepts and methods still dominate.
2.2 The hotel's awareness of environmental resources protection needs to be strengthened.
In recent years, many hotels in China have gradually attached importance to cleaner production according to environmental protection standards, and some have achieved good results. At the same time, we also see that environmental protection has not become the principle of all kinds of hotels, many hotels have not established the correct concept of environmental protection, and some hotels have not reached the advanced level of energy utilization, such as equipment is not in an economic operation state; The equipment control system is not perfect, which leads to the ineffective operation of the equipment; The equipment is inefficient and cannot run at full load. The reason why some hotels join the ranks of creating green hotels is not really from the perspective of environmental protection, but only focusing on energy saving and consumption reduction, thus increasing the economic benefits of hotels. To put it bluntly, it is not really from the perspective of guests and environmental protection, but doing business that is not worthy of the name under the guise of "green" and "survival".
2.3 The hotel's practice only caused difficulties in implementation.
In June 2005, BTG Jianguo Management Group took the lead in calling for "Green Hotel Action" and announced that all disposable consumables such as toothpaste, toothbrushes and razors would be cancelled in its 13 star hotel rooms. In July of the same year, Beijing Tourist Hotel Association proposed that Beijing 14 1 star hotels stop supplying some disposable room supplies. However, before long, the "six small pieces" were put into the guest room again. It is understood that the reasons for the "defection" and "six minor events" of these hotels have come back. First, guests complain because they can't get the service they deserve; Second, some hotels had expected to reduce expenses through this measure, but the effect was not obvious, and even had the opposite effect. Hotel guests take it for granted to put six small items in the hotel room, because the guests have already paid the fee, which is very inconvenient. The hotel cancelled six small items, which caused inconvenience to the guests and did not reduce the room rate, so the guests did not benefit from it.
2.4 the organization does not implement.
As a systematic project, "greening" needs the joint efforts of the government, industry organizations, the public and hotels, and any one aspect alone is not enough. Because the implementation of green management in hotels in China is still in the primary stage, the understanding of what green management is and how to implement it needs to be further improved and deepened. For example, some hotels think that as long as they shout a few environmental slogans, implement some green service and management standards, and put up "green" or "ecological" signs for some hotels, they can catch up with the trend of green management, thus making "green management" an empty talk.
The third chapter is the misunderstanding and problems in the practice of creating "green hotel"
3. 1 The main purpose of creating a "green hotel" is to carry out environmental protection work in the industry and realize sustainable development. But a truly environmentally friendly hotel is also a concept of development and change, and there is no absolute standard or model. Therefore, creating a "green hotel" is a starting point, not an end point, and should be the constant goal of the hotel. In recent years, there are the following misunderstandings in the practice of creating "green hotels" in China's hotel industry:
1. Environmental management is separated from daily management. Hotel management has its own management business, but in the practice of hotel environmental management, environmental management is relatively difficult to integrate into the daily management of hotels, because environmental management involves a lot of scientific knowledge of environmental protection, and many hotel managers generally lack this knowledge, including personnel who carry out training; On the other hand, it is a systematic work to integrate environmental management into daily management. It is difficult for people who manage local work to deal with systematic work, and the performance evaluation of systematic work depends on the application of statistical technology. However, in many hotels, the application of statistical technology has always been a weak link in management. If the research on the development of hotel environmental management cannot be integrated into the daily management of hotels, the effect of environmental management will be greatly affected. The separation between hotel environmental management and daily management is generally manifested in the following two aspects:
(1) to realize terminal management. In the history of environmental protection development, it has gone through the stage of "end treatment", that is, the treatment of environmental pollution in the last stage of production. The biggest problem of this treatment is that it can't fundamentally solve the pollution control, but it only transfers the pollutants, and the pollutants have not decreased. For enterprises, terminal governance also increases the operating costs of enterprises. Therefore, environmental management is more about process control to reduce pollution in the production process. In the actual management of hotels, terminal management measures are often adopted. Many hotels work around the "green hotel" standard. Because many clauses in the standard are result-oriented, hotels directly control the operation results, and rarely carry out process analysis and control. For example, although the hotel has built a sewage treatment device, because the process control is not in place, the sewage discharge is still not up to standard. Excessive discharge of hotel sewage is often due to excessive COD, which is caused by poor kitchen management, which makes a lot of waste oil and catering waste enter the sewer. Therefore, this is a process discharge problem.
(2) short-term behavior. In the creation of "green hotel", many hotels regard environmental management as an activity, hoping to win the title of "green hotel" in the selection. Hotel activities often concentrate more manpower, financial resources and material resources in a short time, have clear requirements and objectives, and pay attention to publicity among employees and the public. However, due to the special requirements for people, money and things, this activity is not permanent. In the process of creating a "green hotel", it did go through an "activity" stage. At this stage, many hotels put more energy into environmental protection work, but after that, this work stopped, which made the environmental protection performance of hotels return to the original state, even lower than the previous performance level. This is because the hotel did not fully understand this work in the "activity" stage and did not incorporate environmental management into its daily management. In this way, creating a "green hotel" has become a burden for the hotel, not an active behavior, so it can't last long.
2. Environmental protection and quality management are separated. Hotel environmental management and quality management are inseparable.
Environmental management is to meet the needs of hotels and the public for environmental protection, so the object of management is activities and behaviors that adversely affect the external environment. However, because the hotel receives guests in its area and provides them with safe, healthy and comfortable living space, the environmental quality inside the hotel is an important part of the hotel's environmental management and the hotel's product quality. Therefore, hotel environmental management and quality management are organically combined, and hotel environmental management is based on hotel quality management. At present, some hotels ignore the quality requirements when implementing environmental management. For example, in order to save energy, hotels reduce the illumination of indoor space, which affects the illumination requirements of hotel guests. In this way, the creation of "green hotel" can not be supported and recognized by consumers, which hinders the continuous development of "green hotel" creation activities.
3. Natural environmental protection and humanistic environmental protection are separated.
Environmental protection in a broad sense includes the protection of natural environment and human environment, especially in tourism, the protection of human environment is more important. At present, the environmental management work carried out by hotels is mainly aimed at the destruction of the natural environment by hotel management, and the protection of the human environment has not been paid attention to. The main reason is that the hotels involved in the creation of "green hotels" are all established hotels, and the protection of humanistic environment is related to the location and style of hotels. It is almost impossible for established hotels to make adjustments in these aspects in the short term, so these aspects are easily overlooked.
