Jingling school accepted the slogan of "show your spirit" of the public security school in theory, and revised it in many ways. They put forward that "the situation is poor and will change, and things are isolated and strange" ("Preface to Zhong Xing's Asking the Mountain Pavilion"), that is, after opposing the step-by-step approach, they advocate innovation. Seeing that the abuses of the public security school are vulgar, superficial and rash, they put forward the style of "living in seclusion" to correct them. In the preface, Zhong Xing's poems talk about how to seek "the true poems of the ancients". As the saying goes, "What a real poet does is what the spirit does. Examining his intimacy and single thought, he went his own way and quietly sent it away in the hustle and bustle, but with an empty heart and determination, he swam alone beyond the vastness. " They also advocated learning from the ancients in order to be "generous" (Tan's Preface to Poetry said that he and Zhong Xing had "learned from the ancients", but they did not pursue the inherent "style" of the ancients like the Seven Schools, but sought the spirit of the ancients with their own spirit as the main body. Therefore, when they interpret ancient poems, they often bend the ancients to suit themselves.
