What methods do airports have to eliminate snowfall?
Airport snow removal usually uses several kinds of equipment: snow shovel, snow blower, snow blower and deicing liquid distributor. For snow that is not very thick, just blow it away with a snow blower, which uses a turbojet engine retired from the Taiwan military as the driving force for blowing snow; If the snow is thick, it is necessary to use a snow shovel and a snow blower to clear most of the snow, and then use a snow blower to clean the remaining snow (the running cost of the snow blower is extremely high, and each one consumes about one ton of aviation kerosene per hour); If the runway freezes, the snow blower can remove the thin ice when the ice layer is not thick, and if the ice layer is too thick, there is nothing the snow blower can do. We have dealt with this situation once, that is, using a loader to remove the thicker ice layer and using a snow blower to remove the remaining thin ice; If there is enough time or to prevent the road from freezing, the deicing liquid distributor will be used to spray deicing liquid on the road.
