Known as the "Little Olympics", it is a world-scale comprehensive sports meeting sponsored by the International Du E Sports University Federation, which is limited to college students and people who have graduated less than two years (the age limit is 17-28). Founded in 1959, formerly known as the International Universiade.
In the early 1920s, international university organizations at that time began to plan and hold the World Universiade. 1923 in may, the world university sports conference was held in Paris, and the conference decided to hold the first international university games the following year. 1924, the first international Universiade was held in Warsaw, with three events: track and field, swimming and fencing. Since then, the sports meeting has been held irregularly, and it was held for 8 times in 1939 * * *. Later, due to the interruption of the World War II Games, 1947 resumed. However, since 195 1, due to the changes in the international situation, it has been divided into two sports meetings, one in the west is called "International Student Games" and the other in the east is called "Youth Student Games" or "Youth Goodwill Games". These two camps organize and hold their own university sports meeting.
1957, in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the French National Union of Students, the International Universiade and the International Cultural Festival were held in Paris. With the unanimous consent of the representatives of 30 countries attending the meeting, it is decided to hold world-wide college sports competitions on a regular basis in the future, named "World University Games", which will be held every two years in principle.
From 65438 to 0959, the first World Universiade was held in Turin, Italy, with 985 athletes from 45 countries participating. Up to 1999, the Universiade has been held for 20 times.
Generally, the Universiade will include nine officially stipulated events, including track and field, swimming, diving, water polo, gymnastics, fencing, tennis, basketball and volleyball, but the host country has the right to add 1 event. For example, the host country Bulgaria 1977 increased wrestling, Mexico 1979 increased football and Japan 1985 increased judo.
1960, the Universiade was held in Chamonix, France, imitating the Olympic system. At first, the Summer Olympic Games and the Winter Olympic Games were held in odd years and even years respectively. From 198 1, held in the same year. Up to 1999, the Universiade has been held for 19, and the competition events include speed skating, short track speed skating, figure skating, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, platform skiing, biathlon, ice hockey, nordic combined and skateboarding.
China participated in some track and field events of the first Universiade from 65438 to 0959. From the second session to the eighth session 196 1, China did not send a delegation to participate. From 65438 to 0975, China was accepted as a full member of the International University Sports Federation. From the 9th session of 1977, China sent a delegation to participate in all previous World University Games.
Since the Universiade is a large-scale comprehensive sports meeting in the world, second only to the Olympic Games, since the first competition was held in 1959, all countries in the world have attached great importance to it and sent the best athletes to participate. Since 1960s, * * * has broken 65,438+08 world records in track and field and swimming at previous Summer Universiade (see below).
