There have been many different opinions on this issue over the years. Some people think that Tongliao was named because there were business trips at that time, and after the town was established, a road leading to Liaoyuan House in the east, which is now Zhengjiatun in Jilin Province, was opened, so people called it the place leading to Liaoyuan, hence the name Tongliao. It has also been suggested that Tongliao was named because the selected town base recorded in the third historical document on which we were based earlier belongs to "Pingdian District 1, with roads in the south, Liaohe River in the west, Pinggang in the east and Guangye in the north", so it is called Tongliao. Others say that when Tongliao was named, Xiliaohe didn't do it as it does today. At that time, the torrent was surging, nourishing thousands of miles of fields on both sides of the strait, and the selected town base led to the bank of Xiliao River, so it was named Tongliao. Scholars have different opinions on the interpretation of the name Tongliao, and the exact meaning of the name Tongliao needs new historical materials and everyone's continued efforts to discover.
