Tianzun is a Taoist honorific title for the noblest god. For example, Sanqing, the highest god in Taoism (even higher than the Jade Emperor in Taoism), is called the Buddha of the Beginning, the Buddha of Morality and the Buddha of Lingbao respectively. Li Yi created a greeting of "Buddha's mercy" to imply that he is a Buddha, which is a great disrespect to the Buddha!
In this regard, Xu Xuanzhi, a Taoist master, pointed out in his article entitled "Infinite Buddha", "Infinite Life" and "Immortal Friends":
The source of "immortality"
Infinite Buddha originated from the spread of storytellers in Northeast China, and now the source of infinite life is textual research. Buddhist tantra calls Amitabha Buddha "the Buddha with infinite life". The Buddhist temples in southwest China are intertwined and live next to each other. The pronunciation of "Buddha" and "Fu" in southwest China is the same. "Infinite Buddha" evolved into "Infinite Life Fu", which gradually spread from folk to Taoism. The results spread from mistakes to mistakes and to Taoist circles all over the country.
"Fairy friends" is a fallacy.
Xianyou is a new term invented by a Taoist temple in southwest China. Immortals can only be called "Xianyou" among immortals, and mortals cannot use the title of "Xianyou". The correct name among Taoist believers is "Taoist friend". When friends meet, as long as they are peers, regardless of age and gender differences, they all call each other "brothers" to show respect. Zhang San is called "Senior Brother" of Li Si, and Li Si should also be called "Senior Brother" of Zhang San. If they belong to the same master, they can distinguish each other according to their disciples. Taoism uses male appellation, without elder sister, younger sister, etc.
God's mercy? Who invented it?
In Taoism, Taoist friends say "compassion" when they meet and salute, which is the standard etiquette. The word "compassion" comes from Tao Zu's Tao Te Ching, which says: "I have three treasures, I hold them and protect them. On the one hand, I am kind, on the one hand, I am frugal, on the other hand, I dare not be the best in the world. " Now, a Taoist priest calls himself "immortal" when he meets people. What ignorance! ! So-and-so Taoist priest asks disciples and believers to call themselves "God Blessed Compassion" when they see him, implying that they are "God Blessed", which is an act of deceiving teachers and destroying ancestors. Taoism has never had a so-called "grace". "Infinite life" and "Infinite Buddha" both evolved from Buddhism, and now they have evolved into the spoken language of Taoism, which is sad! In fact, Taoism has no tradition of saying "Tianzun" or other words. Every religion has its own characteristics. Buddhism has a tradition of chanting Buddha's name in person and every day, which Taoism does not advocate. Now there are also Taoist priests who teach people to recite the sacred names of immortals, and teach people to recite "Taiyi saves the suffering Buddha" every day, which has just appeared in recent years. Some people in Taoism also use "boundless Buddha" as their daily greetings and Taoist slogans, which was revised after realizing the fallacy of the word "boundless Buddha". Whether the word "Buddha with infinite longevity" is appropriate or not remains to be discussed within Taoism. What kind of words are used by Taoism as a slogan of praise should be formulated and standardized by the National Taoist Association. Before that, Taoist friends should respect tradition and call it "compassion" when they meet, and don't use wrong words such as boundless Buddha and infinite life.
