The origin of World Postal Day
1874, 10 year 10 9 October, representatives of 22 countries signed the Berne Treaty, the first international postal treaty, and the Universal Postal Union was born. Due to the rapid increase in the number of participating countries, the Universal Postal Union officially changed its name to the Universal Postal Union in 1878, and became a specialized agency of the United Nations from 1948. To commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union, the 16 Universal Postal Union Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969 passed a resolution to designate September 10 as Universal Postal Union Day.

1984, at the19th session of the Universal Postal Union Congress held in Hamburg, Germany, a resolution was passed to rename Universal Postal Day "World Postal Day". The purpose of establishing World Postal Day is to publicize the important role of postal services in the cultural, economic and social development of various countries and the work and achievements of the Universal Postal Union to the competent departments of member States and the general public, so as to promote the development of the world postal industry. The Universal Postal Union has 190 members (September 2004).
