Shanghai Ocean University, formerly known as Jiangsu Fisheries School, was established in 19 12. 1952 became the first undergraduate fisheries university in China, and 1985 was renamed as Shanghai Fisheries University. In 2008, it was renamed Shanghai Ocean University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. This school was originally a university under the Ministry of Agriculture. Since 2000, it has been transferred from the Ministry of Agriculture to local governments, jointly built by the central and local governments, and mainly managed by Shanghai. In 2009, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the State Oceanic Administration jointly issued a document to establish Shanghai Ocean University.

It has the Key Laboratory of Innovation and Utilization of Aquatic Germplasm Resources of the Ministry of Education, the Key Laboratory of Sustainable Development of Marine Fishery Resources of the Ministry of Education, the Key Open Laboratory of Aquatic Germplasm Resources and Utilization of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Research Center of Fishery Animal and Plant Pathogens and Fish Nutrition and Environmental Ecology of the Ministry of Agriculture, the China Fisheries Development Strategy Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of Refrigeration Equipment of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Marine Fisheries Training Center of the Ministry of Agriculture. It has Shanghai Aquaculture Engineering Technology Research Center, Shanghai University Aquaculture Electronics Research Institute, Shanghai University Key Laboratory of Marine Biological Resources Development and Utilization, and Shanghai University Water Environment Ecological Engineering Research Center. A number of characteristic professional laboratories, such as China-America (SHOU-NOAA) Ocean Remote Sensing and Fishery Information Research Center and Freshwater Fishery Processing and Utilization Research Room, have been built. The school has the Institute of Marine Science of Shanghai Ocean University, which consists of Digital Ocean Graduate School, Institute of Marine Medicine System and Neuroscience, Institute of Marine Medicine and Health Food, Institute of Marine Policy and Law, Marine Fisheries Remote Sensing GIS Technology Laboratory, Marine Ecosystem and Environment Laboratory, China-US Marine Remote Sensing and Fisheries Information Research Center, Marine Economic Research Center and Marine Culture Research Center. The school also has Agricultural Research Institute, Public Management Research Institute, China Fish Culture Research Institute, Foreign Language Research Institute and China Fish Culture Museum. It has famous fish research rooms and specimen rooms at home and abroad and the largest professional whale museum in Asia. At the same time, the school has more than 50 teaching practice bases throughout the country.

1959 The Ministry of Communications established Shanghai Maritime College in Shanghai. In 2004, it was renamed Shanghai Maritime University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

The school has 2 postdoctoral research mobile stations, 2 first-class doctoral programs, 7 doctoral programs in 2 disciplines, 1 1 first-class master's degree authorization points, 28 master's degree authorization points in 2 disciplines, and 6 professional master's degree points (including MBA, EMBA, LLM, master of translation, master of engineering management, master of engineering, Master of Engineering includes nine fields, including transportation engineering, ship and ocean engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer technology, electronics and communication engineering, project management and logistics. It has the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education of Container Supply Chain Technology, the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education of Shipping Simulation Technology, the Key Laboratory of Shipping Technology and Control Engineering Transportation Industry, the Science and Technology Novelty Retrieval Workstation of the Ministry of Education, the Maritime Law Research Center of Shanghai Maritime University, the Information Engineering Technology Research Center of Shanghai Shipping Logistics, and the Shanghai Social Science Innovation Research Base (the research direction of Shanghai Shipping Center). Shanghai International Shipping Research Center is affiliated to this school. There are 1 national key disciplines (traffic planning and management), 5 national characteristic disciplines (navigation technology, logistics management, mechanical design and manufacturing and its automation, marine engineering and shipping management) and 9 municipal key disciplines (traffic planning and management, vehicle application engineering, marine engineering, port and shipping electric drive and control engineering, logistics engineering and management, mechanical design and theory, shipping management). There is a water training center, with 10,000-ton "Yufeng" teaching practice boat 1 boat, 2 ocean-going training sailboats in the infinite navigation area and 29 water training boats.
