Secretary-General Lin announced the start of the ceremony, the military band played the national anthem, and Chairman Mao announced: "The people of China and the country have been established!" Then the national flag was raised and 300,000 people paid tribute to it. Chairman Mao then read out the announcement and everyone cheered.

The military parade began, starting with two rows of navy, followed by a division of infantry, artillery, chariots and cavalry. The plane of the People's Air Force also came. The parade lasted two and a half hours. Then the masses marched, people lit lanterns and torches, set off fireworks and shouted slogans. At 9: 30 in the evening, people walked out of the square and lights flooded Beijing.
