Saturation reactor is a kind of core reactor with controllable saturation. The 1950s and 1970s were the period when magnetic saturation reactors were popular in the field of electrical automation [1, 2,3].

Compared with the electric vacuum device, it has obvious advantages in withstanding harsh environment, and its static performance is better than that of the crossed magnetic amplifier system. At that time, domestic and foreign writings on magnetic saturation reactors and magnetic amplifiers, as well as reports on the development of new magnetic core materials were common. In China, a series of magnetic amplifiers have been formed in 1970s.

[2] Since 1970s, power electronic devices represented by bipolar electronic devices and silicon controlled rectifier have gradually dominated the field of electrical control. Saturated reactors are excluded because of their large inertia and small power amplification, and their development is hindered. However, saturated reactor is a kind of power equipment with both advantages and disadvantages. In the control of resistance furnace temperature and other slow processes, a series of products with saturated reactors as power devices are still in use. People's research and exploration on how to apply it to the control of faster processes continues. Some gratifying results have also been achieved.
