Liaoning Ship (code: 00 1 carrier, ship number: 16) is an aircraft carrier under the command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy, which can carry fixed-wing aircraft and is also the first aircraft carrier in service in China.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy Shandong Ship (ship number: 17) is the first domestic aircraft carrier independently designed, built and equipped in China, marking the official entry of China Navy into the era of domestic aircraft carriers.

The aircraft carrier Liaoning was formerly the USS Varyag, a marshal-class aircraft carrier of Soviet Navy Kuznetsov. In the middle and late 1980s, when Ukraine was building the aircraft carrier Varyag, the Soviet Union disintegrated and the construction project was interrupted, with a completion rate of 68%. 1999, China purchased the Varyag and arrived at Dalian Port on March 4, 2002.
On April 26th, 2005, China Navy began to continue construction and improvement. The goal of the PLA is to refit and manufacture this unfinished aircraft carrier for scientific research, experiment and training. On September 25, 20 12, it was officially renamed Liaoning and delivered to the PLA navy.
