I. Sports career
1On August 2nd, 969, Fernando Manuel Silva Couto was born in espinho on a summer weekend. This is a seaside town in northern Portugal, just one step away from Porto, the seat of Porto Football Club, one of Portugal's three traditions. Couto spent his childhood here. Couto's family is a big family. Although his parents want him to concentrate on his studies, Cotto always thinks about football. When he graduated from the ninth grade, Cotto decided to devote himself to football.
1, national team experience
National team debut:1990 June 65438+February 20, Portugal and the United States (1-0).
The first Portuguese international to play 100 games for the national team. 1989, won the World Youth Championship. Since then, his constant international competition experience has made him the backbone of Portugal in the 1996 European Cup. Also participated in the European Cup in 2000 and 2004 and the World Cup in 2002.
Portugal won the World Youth Championship. He is also an indispensable strength player for the Portuguese team. After playing for Porto, he played for Parma and Barcelona. After working in Lazio for seven or eight years, he returned to Palma. His partner with Costa is the iron box of Portugal's defense.
He participated in many international competitions and was selected for the Portuguese team, winning more than 60 championships. His air defense ability is very good, and he has good overall and defensive coordination ability. He has been Portugal's absolute main defender since the friendly match against the United States in 1990. Portugal conceded only three goals in the eight Euro 2004 qualifiers he participated in.
2. Club experience
In 87/88, Cotto was selected for the Porto first team and made his debut at the age of 19. However, it is not easy to gain a foothold in the powerful Porto. Soon he was loaned to a third-rate team for further investigation. 1989 won the World Youth Championship for Portugal under the age of 20. Then he was loaned out, this time to a second-division team. 90/9 1 season, he returned to Porto. His excellent physical condition and superb heading skills make him stand out and become the main central defender of the team. At the same time, he was also selected for the national team, and the February 1990 19 game against the United States became his debut for the national team.
Because of his excellent performance, Cotto attracted the attention of other European teams. After some competition, Cotto joined Parma on 1994, and made his Serie A debut in the match between Parma and Cremonese on1September 4, 994. However, his life in Italy was not satisfactory at first. Because he collided with pierluigi casiraghi in the World Cup qualifier against Italy in June, 1993, 1 1, he was not well remembered by Italians. However, Cotto's unique temperament and personal charm, coupled with flowing long hair, made him quickly integrate into Parma's lineup and become one of the most important players in the team, winning Parma the runner-up in the league and the UEFA Cup. In two years, he made 39 appearances for Parma and scored four goals in the first year. To celebrate his rare goal, he invented the iconic hand-to-neck somersault to celebrate Dafa.
Cotto's performance in Euro 96 once again attracted the attention of European football. Although Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep Cotto, it is hard for him to refuse the invitation from Barcelona. In addition to Barcelona's status as a giant, fighting side by side with his friends Bai Ya and Figo is also the main factor contributing to his transfer. He followed the Catalan giants to win the King's Cup of Spain twice. Couto won the European Cup for the first time after Rotterdam 1997 defeated Paris Saint-Germain in May. The following year, Cotto also won the Spanish League and Cup.
/kloc-0 returned to Italy in July, 1998 and joined Lazio. In Lazio, he won the European Cup Winners again and beat Mallorca in the final at Villa Park in Birmingham. Then he won the Italian League and the Cup. In 200 1 year, he was found to be positive in a drug test. Although he denied taking banned drugs, his B bottle test results forced him to be banned for five months.
In 2005, Cotto returned to Palma, and his fans extended warm arms to welcome him back to his old club. He played 23 times in the first season. He missed most of the games because of injury at the beginning of the 0607 season, but then the defense line under his leadership contributed to the team's victory in the cruel relegation battle. This past season, Cotto was still injured and failed to help the team keep the first-class seat. At the end of the season, 39-year-old Cotto left the team after his contract with Parma expired. In three years, he played 62 times for the team and scored 1.
After Portugal won the World Youth Championship under the age of 20 in 1989, Cotto and his teammates were called the "golden generation" of Portuguese football, but they failed to enter the World Cup finals in 1994 and 1998, and their performance in the 2002 World Cup was also very poor.
Unlike the poor performance in the World Cup, Cotto and his teammates performed very well in the European Championship. 1996, they entered the quarter-finals. In the 2000 European Championship, they only lost to the later champion France in the semi-final. In 2004, although he was 34 years old, Cotto propped up Portugal's defense. As a captain, he is one of the few players who suffered a fiasco in the 2002 World Cup and won the trust of coach Scolari. He helped Portugal reach the final, but lost to Greece 0:/kloc-0.
Cotto retired from the national team after the European Cup in 2004. However, he is still the second player in the Portuguese national team after Figo, reaching 1 10 times and scoring 8 goals.
Cotto witnessed Palma's glorious 1990s and lonely new century. Although he is old and the style of the ball is not as good as that of the past, he is the most serious player in every game and can be called a model player. Parma's demotion is not his fault.
2010 June 19, Cotto succeeded Carlos Tass as the coach of Braga Club in Portugal, which was his first job outside the football field.
