Gastrodia elata as a precious and famous product, its value is equivalent to that of Maotai. As an authentic medicinal material, its reputation is comparable to that of ginseng. Dr Nanbo Xiong Heng, a Japanese doctor of pharmacy, asserted in his monograph "The Gate of Traditional Chinese Medicine" that "Gastrodia elata is the best in Guizhou".

Gastrodia elata needs a cool and humid climate, lush forest environment and fertile and soft soil. Most areas in Guizhou have these conditions, so it has become one of the hometowns of Gastrodia elata.

Gastrodia elata is very common in Guizhou and is produced in almost every county. However, Zheng 'an, Daozhen, Zhijin, Nayong, Pu 'an, Qianxi, Zunyi, Dejiang, Guiding and Huishui have more output.

Famous Chinese patent medicines in Guizhou, such as "Ginseng Zaizao Pill" and "Dahuoluo Dan", all contain gastrodia elata as the main component. In recent years, gastrodia elata has been added to some cigarettes, drinks and wine, and its application is more and more extensive.

Guizhou is the main producing area of Gastrodia elata in China. Gastrodia elata is big, thick, yellow and white, translucent, full, solid and hollow, and it is a good wild product.
