Explanation of the five great beasts
The five sacred beasts are also called the five gods. In ancient China mythology, East Qinglong, West White Tiger, South Suzaku, North Xuanwu and Middle Huanglong were called the five great beasts. Spirit beasts have the power to ward off evil spirits and pray for blessings.
Qinglong is a spirit beast in ancient myths and legends, belonging to one of the four elephants in traditional culture, namely Qinglong, White Tiger, Suzaku and Xuanwu Four Holy Beasts. Since the pre-Qin period, Seven Nights have been the sacred animals representing Tai Hao and the East, but in the Han Dynasty, the theory of five elements began to rise, and its symbolic meaning increased "A, B and Spring".
The white tiger was originally the western god in ancient mythology, and it was one of the four images of the seven Pleiades in Taoism. On the 28th night, the seven places in the west, Kui, Lou, Stomach, Ang, Bi, tapir and Shen, are image tigers, located in the west, belonging to gold and white in color, which are collectively called white tigers.
Suzaku was originally the god of the south in ancient mythology, and one of the seven stars and four elephants in southern Taoism. Twenty-eight nights, the seven-night well in the south, Gui, Liu, Xing, Zhang, Yi and Zhu, whose images are black, are located in the south, belong to fire, and their colors are red. They are collectively called Suzaku, also known as "Suzaku".
Xuanwu was originally the God of the North in ancient mythology and one of the Seven Stars and Four Elephants of Northern Taoism. Twenty-eight nights in the north, there are seven fights, women, emptiness, danger, rooms and walls. Its image turtle, also known as the tortoise-snake combination, is located in the north, belonging to water and dark black, and is collectively called "Xuanwu".
The concept of Huanglong's five elements first appeared in Shangshu and Hong Fan's articles, which mentioned: "The five elements are water, fire, wood, gold and earth. Water is moist, fire is inflamed, wood is straight, gold is skin, and soil is wall. "
